Publisher's summary

Michael Valentine, veteran and former member of an elite private military company, has been recruited by the government to conduct a secret counter-terror operation in the Persian Gulf nation of Zubara. The unit is called Dead Six. Their mission is to take the fight to the enemy and not get caught. Lorenzo, assassin and thief extraordinaire, is being blackmailed by the world's most vicious crime lord. His team has to infiltrate the Zubaran terrorist network and pull off an impossible heist or his family will die. When Dead Six compromises his objective, Lorenzo has a new job: Find and kill Valentine. As allegiances are betrayed and the nation descends into a bloody civil war, Lorenzo and Valentine must face off. Two men. Two missions. Only one will win.

Wow!

Admittedly, I am a big fan of Larry Correia's work. I've read through all of his Monster Hunter, Hard Magic, Tom Stranger and the first two books of the Saga of the Forgotten Warrior. I would recommend them all. This book is of the same calibre. I enjoyed the perspective of the military contractors. The book did not follow a predictable path like most novels and movies seem to do theses days. I like where this is going and will be reading the sequel.

Just as a warning, this book has a fair bit of foul language. I got into a bit of trouble while listening to it with some people within earshot. Also there is a lot of violence and is not for the squeamish.

I also enjoyed the narrator. He is the same narrator as heard on the Hard Magic series. It was easy to tell who was who based on his voice. His characterization of Big Eddie cracked me up.

Brutal, intriguing, and funny

An alt timeline from our own world but close enough that it feels the same. The UN sucks, there are corrupt entities working inside the government, and unsuspecting trigger pullers wanting to get paid.

The story sprinted forward and the book was long enough to actually develop something more than gun porn. It is told by two intertwining perspectives that compliment eachother nicely.

Performance was done well but not how id have read it and wasn't my favorite but got the job done.

If you are looking for an epic series to start that'll keep you listening, look no more. It doesn't get much better than this.

action and intrigue

Solid story with good voice acting. The narrator uses the same voice and cadence for the two ma8n characters. It is a solid read that I don't regret.

Great story, characters, narration, and more

Literally stumbled across this book. I had read Correia's other books/series but wasn't aware of this one. Even though the book is longer (which I like b/c you get more bang for your buck), it doesn't drag on. I could've kept listening so I'm glad there's a sequel. The story keeps you guessing and takes you down several twists/turns as you try to figure out the bigger picture. Plenty of action and emotion is delivered throughout the book as well.

Enjoyed the narration and have listened to Pinchot in Correia's other series so I knew the quality would be great. He does an excellent job of managing multiple characters, personalities, and genders which is not an easy thing to do.

On to the sequel!

Thrilling story

I really enjoyed this book. Bronson Pinchot is amazing. I read the reviews and I can see why some didn't like it. I love Brad Thor and Vince Flynn and I felt this was similar. Very entertaining!

Unbelievable detail--yet not one wasted word!

If you could sum up Dead Six in three words, what would they be?

People--Action--Fun

What did you like best about this story?

Characters were fully developed as both written and performed people. Action was so real! It never got confused or lost either.

Have you listened to any of Bronson Pinchot’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have--and these are even better. He has quite a task in that there were so many characters. But each was uniquely portrayed and easily recognizable.

If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?

Someone will. They don't have to do anything to it. Every detail is already there. Tag line would be…really hard to think up! I will let someone else try to sum these books up in one line.

Any additional comments?

This comment and review are for both books. They are really just part one and two of the same story. Everything said applies to them both. I wrote it on the first one because that is the only one you will bother to read. If you read the first one you will not need reviews to decide about the second. Awesome action that goes on for hours and never repeats or has a single wasted word. Possibly the best written books of their kind I have ever read with ears or eyes. I've read the Hard Magic and Monster Hunter books and loved them, (which is why I bought these). But they are the warm up. Larry Correia just keeps getting better and Mike Kupari and he are an amazing team. The Narrator had many many characters running, (book is entirely first person!) and they were all different, easily distinguished and fantastic. Terrific job. Make sure you have time though because these two books are about 40 hours together…and you will want to keep going until it's finished.

Annoying narration

While I enjoyed the story ( just purchased the Kindle version of book 2 in the series) I was frequently annoyed with the narrator. The voices for the " bad guys" was like listening to nails on a chalkboard. Trying to keep the characters apart was difficult as the accents of each character seemed to change thru the book.
I opted to read the second book myself as the narration lessened my enjoyment of the story
