Publisher's summary

An alien-infested colony. A trapped platoon. The one man who will stop at nothing to lead his unit to safety.

Rade Galaal and his team of special operators are deployed to a colony under attack by a strange new alien race. Their mission: find the extraterrestrial base and destroy it.

The operation should be easy, given that his men pilot Brigand mechs: massive, 25-foot-tall war machines armed to the teeth with electrolasers, rockets, incendiary throwers, and more.

But it's not easy. Rade and his team soon find themselves in over their heads.

Surrounded by an entire world of enraged aliens, they must rely on their wits, their training, and their mechs to survive.

Because their only way out is each other.

Some interesting ideas and mechs

This was a good book. It seemed to lag a bit in places (but that may just my lack of attention span). However there plenty of action and some interesting forays into what it means to be human. I really enjoyed the narration. He did a good job with distinct and consistent voices for each character.

It’s a okay book

This book is okay if you are busy and want some noise in the background. It’s a little drawn out in some places and the whole mech sex thing is really odd.

cool story but Bender is too much

The voice acting is cool but doesn't sound authentic to the race except Tahoe. The writer goes out of his way to tell us that the mechs have gold chains and gold teeth( why? ) one has a handlebar mustache. That shit is dumb. Once the story gets going its cool but folks like Bender talking so much trash, sexual and other random shit, breaks the story to me. I had to shake my head too many times because of this. He is gross. I finally finished but it got to be a chore towards the end.

FINALLY!!!!

Finally, a book with toxic masculinity and all the traits of an sci-fi action drama that doesn’t have a bunch of whiny snowflakes complaining all the time about toxic masculinity.
Let’s be real, THEY ARE MERCs and it’s better entertaining with “machismo” than “holy cow, that alien is just so super rude!” “Maybe we can call the Alien racist and it will just go away!” All of that instead of something “FICTIONAL” than trying to slide political agendas into a story for a hand full of people that don’t understand politics to begin with. Hey, welcome to the world of CHOICES. If you don’t like it, change the channel or close the book.
I enjoyed this and it’s predecessors. It’s grungy and filthy. As a story should be pertaining to futuristic mercenaries trying to survive. Man woman or droid, it’s a dirty cutthroat job and it’s fight to survive in every book.
The voiceover work is very good as well. His voice is not draining and boring. Keeps you entertained all the way through.
It’s worth the listen if your not a whiny crybaby.

Overboard on philosophy.

A lot of philosophical rambling mixed in with killing aliens. The spec ops characters were much better developed than the supervillain plant whose consciousness got put in an AI. Definitely not up to the author’s usual standard.

Mech The Ultimate Mech Book

I bought this to finish my collection of Rade Galaal books and Audible audio. I bought this, along with Mech 2, and 3, because I have both read and listened to the complete ATLAS, Alien War, Captain’s Crucible, and Argonauts series. Nothing beats reading and listening at the same time. This is the first book in the Mech series, and with it comes some of the best plot twists yet. Mech brings us a shocking sub-plot which involves the Nemesis, the Anarchist, and Rade’s MOTH platoon, as well as a new love interest for Rade, as some of the exciting happenings brought to life. And it all started with ATLAS, the kind of book you find in Sci Fi Fandom’s classic collections. Some of the best creators, author Isaac Hooke and narrator James Patrick Cronin, have brought their ideas to life with this book/audible combo, and it must have been difficult for Isaac Hooke to pick what would eventually end up in the book. I love and appreciate the stories and adventures and ideas that go into these Rade Galaal books. If you bought any of the Rade Galaal books, buy this to finish your collection. Recommended.
