Publisher's summary

The stakes are real. The mediator isn't.

"Investigation, Mediation, Vindication." That's how the Yellow Pages ad starts, and if it sounds like the sort of thing a drunk teenager might come up with . . . well, you'd only be wrong about the teenager part. John Smith owns San Diego's smallest private investigation firm, but he doesn't know the first thing about mediation. Or vindication.

On the other side of town, vampire Lucia Borghesi is having a terrible century. Stripped of her throne and banished from Italy, she's now somehow found herself in a dispute with the local demigod of nightmares and terror. And to top it all off, the long-time city mediator has been assassinated and her second-in-command just hired a human to fill that role.

If he wants to survive, John will need to prove his value to Lucia and her people while keeping that demigod from sucking San Diego into an unnamed hell dimension. And he'll have to work fast, because his beloved Corolla is parked curbside in Logan Heights, like an open invitation to the neighborhood's graffiti enthusiasts.

Solid adaptation of a personal favorite

The John Smith series is a favorite of mine; I'm a sucker for everyman characters in fantastical situations, and John Smith is a spectacular addition to the genre. He's funny, kind, a little pathetic, and has enough of a spine when it matters that you just have to root for him.

The voice actor was a little more deep-voiced and smooth than I imagined for the character, but he did a great job regardless.

What a surprise find

I was just checking out books, looking for something new, and came across this. Good plot development, characters with depth, and building an interesting world. As soon as I finished this book, I bought the rest. Great job on the narration in the audiobooks.

This is the perfect start to a new series. All the emotions are represented. It took me a day to listen. You won’t be disappointed.

Love it!

You climb on to the ride with some crabmen then it just goes full speed ahead. I could not put it down planned to listen over 2-3 days but just stayed up all night and finished it in one go. Humor is on point and characters are uniqe and fun!
I enjoy the supernatural detective stories. Most are Just dark and get darker the longer the series goes on. This is a fun ride with amazing characters.

10/10 will listen to it again when next book releases.

Can't believe I hadn't seen it had released

I love this series. I'd found it about a year ago, went to see if there was audio version released. I was sad to see one wasn't available. Finding out out there were now audiobooks of the series available, I was ecstatic. Easily my favorite Urban Fantasy series, I highly recommend it.

Great story. Grabs your interest and keeps you involved right to the end.

A real page turner! The author builds a world of supernatural creatures that frightens and entertains. Bring on the next one!

This definitely one of those books that written by a marvel fanboy.

Honestly the MC has totally unlikeable personality or lacks one. It reminds of Reddit neckbears that just repeat pop culture references and think that is a personality. Also being obtuse isn’t a likable trait at all. This the first I have a written a review. My annoying of this book compelled me to do one
