Hard-boiled urban fantasy
This was surprisingly good. There’s a lot of clichés, but the main plot is interesting and different. The “graphic” might be a touch too graphic in some spots, but it certainly heightens the intensity of the story. Looking forward to number two!

First Series with a Fae that I Liked.
A classy detective story with a magical twist. The world-building was as interesting as it was low-key, the intrigue was well delivered, and the ending was solid. I could listen to this audiobook more than once. Narrators did an amazing job.

Fairy noir?
If you take 1930s style Chicago mob stories, with Gats and fedoras and Italian muscle saying “youz guys,” add magic and a Fae detective cut from the sam cloth as Sam Spade, and then set the story to old school radio sound effects, then this is the result.
Given that it’s book 1, I didn’t fault it too much for focusing entirely on MC Mick Oberon.
The constant music playing in the background was at times a bit too much, but the graphic audio format worked pretty well. It wasn’t half bad, although I could have done without the bursts of F bombs.
