Dr. Hyman gives a great explanation for conventional medicine's faulty approach to chronic disease treatment. Treating the body as a bunch of parts by different specialists that rely on drugs to treat symptoms misses the point of treating the whole person. Drugs more often than not mask symptoms but do nothing to help the body heal.He explains that lifestyle changes are the only reasonable treatments (preventions) for many of the chronic diseases that are so prevalent today. He goes into great detail explaining how many of these inflammation diseases have related symptoms that express themselves differently in each individual.
Clean- the Revolutionary Program to Restore the Body's Natural Ability to Heal Itself by Alejandro Junger. Both authors believe that reducing inflammation, eliminating toxins, allergens and stress can bring about healing in the body.
I thought it was interesting but he kept repeating himself over and over, I don't know if it was poor editing or poor writing. Either way it was a liitle annoying to hear the same studies repeated several times in each section.
Like the author of Clean, Dr. Hyman sells products, supplements and shakes on his website. Both authors go on and on about eliminating processed foods, allergens and toxins then proceed to either recommend some of the same or sell them online. Both sell processed shakes to make their program easy ( after they tell you to eat whole foods). Both have serious allergens on their recommend lists (soy, nuts). Both recommend individual vitamins and mineral supplements even though you may not need them or worse, you could be harmed by them. After telling you that Dr's aren't trained in nutrition (neither were these two- they both still cling to outdated views of nutrition if you examine their dietary recommendations. It's too bad they haven't really done their homework because being almost right is still wrong.
Unfortunately the audio book keeps refering to CD 4. However as an audible listener I don't have CD 4. I am sure the information in this is good and I have no doubt that it works. This purchase just seemed a little incomplete without the references provided in the alusive disk 4.

I like the theory of the book, not really unusual--but the author did use science to substantiate his claims.

Learn about body chemistry how it can be aided by eating the right foods. Fat or slim; if you are concerned about great health this item is great.
I gave this book a 4/5-star rating because it constantly refers to quizzes etc. that are only available in the audio version on CD or the hard copy. For that reason, and in order not to feel cheated, I ended up buying the paperback as well.
Otherwise, the audiobook is chock full of great information and advice that is clearly presented and easy to understand. A definite thumbs up!
I am glad I listened to this book. Although there are no ground breaking findings in it - it would be difficult to say anything new about food - the connections the author makes are very interesting. There are many examples of how certain food influences our health and weight, that are so obvious when you hear it, yet they never occurrent to me before. Credits worth spend on this one.
This book is a Must Have in any library. I have a huge library at home. I worked in some of the finest restaurants in my area. If I had to keep only one book on nutrition, this would be it. Coming from 414 lbs, I know. I've tried everything. Then my sister gave me what I thought was just another book that may contain some help. Ultra-Metabolism is dynamite! It will change how you look at food. Don't waste money on gimmicks. This is it.
This book is the knowledge.. And will attest: the human body craves real nutrition, real water, and needs to move.
Another book I suggest, especially if you are a fan of his, is Sylvester Stallone's 'Sly Moves'; which I feel has more than just the motivation from his life experience, but a real direction. Mr. Stallone understands from experience, there is no easy way to loose weight and keep it off. Hear how he had to train for his movies..and what he learned about dieting and nutrition. Why this one? Look at his results. They speak for themselves.
Now I have a plan on How to move it. Walking and modest Weight training with proper nutrition.
If you are serious, start caring what you buy to eat. Then cut portions. Then stay hydrated and exercise starting slowly. Make exercise fun, like easy Tai Chi, biking, swimming.. and if done modestly at first it will be rewarding.
But Check with your doctor first. Get a good weigh in. Then free your self from dieting and eat healthy! Your body...You deserve it! You can do it!
Excellent! Dr. Hyman's information is so true and on target. It is sad that most people truly don't know how their body can work with them, not against them!
This audio was very helpful in understanding the workings of the human body and how it metabolizes all of the toxins and poisons that are fed to it on a daily basis. A lot of great food for thought and actionable suggestions.
