In order to write a proper review for this book I really need to break it down into 3 parts: A review of the author, the reader and lastly the diet itself. The author, Haley Pomeroy, is incredibly irritating and to use her own words “bossy”. She over sells her diet plan and uses words which are misleading….such “slather your celery with almond butter” or “slather everything on your plate with avocado”. If you follow her diet there are portion controls and there really is no slathering. The reader reflects the author’s attitude and is way too perky throughout the entire read. It is like going to a cheerleading convention and listening to them read the police report from the evening news. Really, there is no way to cheerfully deliver the news that once again I am going on a diet and the reality of it is that I will not always be happy. Since the book does rationalize its approach with a fair amount of nutritional information and science, I much would have preferred a more professional or scholarly presentation.
I don’t think I would have ever made it through the book or attempted the diet if I did not have a friend who was successful on it. So let’s get down to the reason you are really reading this review….does it work? The answer is most definitely YES and it seems to be a well-rounded approach to healthy eating. My husband and I are both working professionals in our mid 50’s and though we had in the past been successful on other diets, we just couldn’t get the weight off. In fact we considered it a good week if we didn’t gain. We stayed on the plan for 8 weeks and lost a combined weight total of 60 pounds! We did not strictly follow her recommendations for portion control but did use common sense. So there was no “slathering” but we weren’t hungry either. The first couple of weeks were a bit rough until I learned how to cook the way we like to eat. My husband would still say it is too bland. We did not find any the recipes she provided to be tolerable, though my friend liked some of them. One more point, I did listen to the entire book and it made a great deal of sense. It helped me to understand why she has the rules that she does which helped me to stick to the plan. It also seems to be a safe well rounded approach to weight loss. So the bottom line is that regardless of how irritating the author and the reader are the diet works. Look at it as a 28 day adventure and then assess it for yourself.

She is a born motivator. If I had read this book myself I probably would not have tried this diet.
The only thing I will add to Marcie's review is that I was able to complete this diet with strong difficulty. When you complete it if you return to your old ways the weight will come back but not as fast as other diets. When you make the days I would say don't let yourself stray too far from the plan because I was mislead by the "fixing your metabolism" statement. No more than a week and if you have the willpower, go back to it. It is a very healthy diet but somewhat unrealistic for most to continue as a lifestyle. Her recipes suck! lol! But if you can cook you will figure out how to cook the way you like to eat.
I love to read! I love reading even more now with my Audible account. I probably read two to three books a month. And, yes, I have a life!
This diet has been a breeze. Well, don't get me wrong there's a lot of prep to it, but I haven't felt like I've been deprived anything but sugar, and that's satisfied with a fruit smoothie. This book is well worth the read, and the follow through!
