Publisher's summary

The devastating truth about the effects of wheat, sugar, and carbs on the brain, with a 30-day plan to achieve optimum health.

Renowned neurologist David Perlmutter, MD, blows the lid off a topic that's been buried in medical literature for far too long: carbs are destroying your brain. And not just unhealthy carbs, but even healthy ones like whole grains can cause dementia, ADHD, anxiety, chronic headaches, depression, and much more. Dr. Perlmutter explains what happens when the brain encounters common ingredients in your daily bread and fruit bowls, why your brain thrives on fat and cholesterol, and how you can spur the growth of new brain cells at any age.

He offers an in-depth look at how we can take control of our "smart genes" through specific dietary choices and lifestyle habits, demonstrating how to remedy our most feared maladies without drugs. With a revolutionary 30-day plan, Grain Brain teaches us how we can reprogram our genetic destiny for the better.

Please note that there are many references in this audiobook to information discussed in Chapter 10. Chapter 10 has been recorded in its entirety on this audiobook and all information contained in this chapter can be listened to in the recording.

Best book on health that I have read

The author of this book is thorough in explanation and his extreme knowledge pours out onto the pages of this book quite well, making it a very interesting read even though it can be very intricate at times. I believe in his teachings 100% because I have followed them for a couple of years and have seen diseases like high blood pressure and diabetes disappear in mine and my husbands life. A very impressive read for anyone with an open mind who is seeking answers after mainstream medicine has been proven wrong to them or a loved one. Going to the source and treating the origin is the answer. There is no magic pill for anything.

Eye opening for anyone who is health conscious

Fascinating and quite the eye opener in regards to health. The link that gluten has on all facets of the human body is incredible and quite scary as we seem to live on whole grains, sugars and carbs. I am constantly on a health journey and love informative sources and this was full of easy to understand information. It not only discusses the issue but gives resolution to the issue. I think everyone should read this book and it would be phenomenal in high school as part of the health classes.

Easy to follow and engaging!

Over the last few years there has been a lot of hype over the food industry and where it is taking our health. This book covers the answers to many of our health issues today from both physical and mental issues, all relating back to the food we are putting in our body. Grain Brain offers easy to follow information regarding the truth about our food and how it impacts our lives. This book was a game changer for me and would recommend to anyone who is seriously looking to change their lifestyle habits.

Great info on your path to grain-free health

This book has an awful lot of information on the effects of grains on your brain and also in your general health. The book is primarily about having grains in your diet and how they impact your health in various ways (specifically how they affect your brain). The author goes through a number of diseases like Alzheimer's and dementia. He discusses how grains may contribute to mental conditions, your health in general, and not to mention... gluten sensitivity.

The book doesn't simply narrow in on grains but also on most carbs and sugar as well. There is a number of studies and research to back up the claims in this book. However; I believe some readers won't like some of the contradictory nature of some of the information compared to what we, as a society, have come to know over the years as good nutrition. If you are already on a gluten-free diet, on your way to becoming grain-free, or (like me) if you have read books like The Plant Paradox by Dr. Gundry, then I don't believe you'll be surprised by the information here.

There is a great many stats and percentages related to some of the foods which may prompt many to read the book a couple times. For instance, I doubt many will remember all the percentages of omega-6 and omega-3 fats in each oil that is available on the market today. If that's the information you want to know... you'll be making a lot of digital bookmarks.

Excellent book. Well narrated. I'll be listening to it a couple times I'm sure.
