Publisher's summary

From USA Today best-selling author Aly Martinez comes a new heart-stopping stand-alone romance.

In the aftermath of tragedy, it’s strange the things you remember.

The deafening boom as the house exploded.

The paralyzing fear as I searched for my wife.

The blinding smoke burning my eyes as I carried her out.

But carved into my soul for the rest of my days would be the earth-shattering realization that the woman in my arms wasn’t my wife.

Bree and I were the only survivors - not that either of us were truly living after that night. As a single dad with nowhere else to go, I moved into her guest house. And somehow, through the guilt and grief, we forged an unlikely team.

It took years, but I watched the gradual return of her smile - slow and life-altering.

The two of us could sit outside for hours talking about nothing, and it filled the massive hole in my chest with new life.

I may have carried her out of that fire, but the truth was, Bree saved me.

As we healed, the secrets and lies of the past smoldered in the ashes, threatening to ignite again.

Our love was born from the embers, and together, we would go up in flames.

hurt so good

It's like Aly lassowd my heart and held it hostage with barbed wire opening it up to all that is From The Embers. This story completely captured my heart and set it a glow slowly melting away the sharp thorns piece by piece. The pure and utter rawness and reality, the loss, heartache, genuineness, and love. Again and again this story had a way of healing just soon after it cut deep. There is no doubt about it, From The Embers will forever be tattooed in my heart.

So Many Twists

I only recently found Aly Martinez but quickly am falling in love with her work. This is my 3rd book of hers in two months, and it is my favorite one yet!

When this one started off, you think it is going to be pretty predictable. It was going to be a story around tragedy, but it turned in to so much more. There were so many twists that kept this one interesting and set it apart from others. I loved every minute. I did not see some things happening the way they did and my jaw even dropped at times. I also shed a small tear at the more heartwarming parts.

I recommend going into this one blind as I loved not knowing anything about this before starting. Overall, I loved this one.

Good

I am not a big fan of romance stories but I have to say this one was pretty good! Kept me interested throughout the entire story, and wasn’t too cliche. Nice little twists and turns. The narrators were great as well.

Heartfelt Humor with Twists

I loved this book! I wasn't a fan of listening to books but I saw this on TikTok and decided to give it a try.

The plot catches your breath a few times! The characters grow with the story and there's moments where you see yourself. The storyline is drama and pure romance! The erotic scenes aren't cringey but beautifully written. Get the book!

Enjoyable, just not as great as some A.M. others.

Good characters, and the overall story, plot and surprises were decent, if a bit predictable. Really enjoyed Connor Crais' narration, but what really killed this one for me was Erin Mallon's attempt at male voices. UGH!!! I almost quit listening because of that. WAY to forced and fake-gravelly.

Good story but characters were kinda boring

Two couples were having a game night at one of their homes when there was an explosion and the house caught fire. One of the men was looking for his wife in the rubble and thought he found her and carried her out of the house only to discover she was actually his wife's best friend. They both turned back to the house when there was another explosion and there was no hope to rescue their spouses.

The two, who were not very close in the beginning, formed a bond over their grief and raising their children in the wake of losing their spouses in the fire. A plot twist in the middle is ultimately what brought them together as more than friends. I don't want to include spoilers but the plot twist is really good, trust me! Towards the end of the book there was yet another plot twist that I definitely did not see coming and I was afraid I was going to get a cliffhanger but somehow the author wrapped it up pretty neatly in the end.

Overall it was a good book and the plot twists were definitely unexpected. I didn't love the main characters though. There just wasn't a lot of substance to them that made them unforgettable to me.

The audio is narrated by Erin Mallon and Connor Crais. It was neither of their best performance but it had more to do with the characters they were playing than with their talent.
