Publisher's summary

A troubled young mother yearns for a shot at redemption in this heartbreaking yet hopeful story from #1 New York Times bestselling author Colleen Hoover.

After serving five years in prison for a tragic mistake, Kenna Rowan returns to the town where it all went wrong, hoping to reunite with her four-year-old daughter. But the bridges Kenna burned are proving impossible to rebuild. Everyone in her daughter’s life is determined to shut Kenna out, no matter how hard she works to prove herself.

The only person who hasn’t closed the door on her completely is Ledger Ward, a local bar owner and one of the few remaining links to Kenna’s daughter. But if anyone were to discover how Ledger is slowly becoming an important part of Kenna’s life, both would risk losing the trust of everyone important to them.

The two form a connection despite the pressure surrounding them, but as their romance grows, so does the risk. Kenna must find a way to absolve the mistakes of her past in order to build a future out of hope and healing.

Critic reviews

“Narrators Brittany Pressley and Ryan West depict a story of triumph in a hopeless situation.… The audiobook has excellent pacing and gives equal attention to the relationships among Kenna, Ledger, and Diem. Pressley so expertly illustrates Kenna's desperation that listeners will hope for her redemption. While the two narrators have opposite approaches, West as gruff Ledger and Pressley as wilted Kenna, they complement each other as the audiobook progresses.”AudioFile Magazine

“The narration of Hoover's novel is split between Kenna's and Ledger's perspectives, skillfully brought to life in the audiobook by Brittany Pressley and Ryan West. A contemporary romance with wide appeal. Hoover's novel realistically depicts reactions to heartache, and the narrators' performances underscore the relatability of her characters.”Library Journal

“Hoover delves deep into grief and guilt to create a multifaceted redemption story for a cast of characters who fight as fiercely as they love. Fans won’t be disappointed.”Publishers Weekly

Good story - needed editor

The story was good but would have benefited from an editor. There were MANY places in the book that were repetitive mentions where it was obvious they put the info in two places in the story and missed editing out the second mention. It just felt sloppily edited. Can’t beat the narration team though - they are both all stars and I could listen to either of them read the dictionary and be a happy girl. Light listen with happily ever after feels - worth the credit for sure.

Exceptional Story

This story really got to me. I felt the sadness, happiness, and all the emotions in between during the telling of this tragic tale. The writing was superb. And of course, the narration was spot on. All the characters were so well described, I felt like I knew each and every one of them. I just thoroughly enjoyed this book and want to read another Colleen Hoover novel.

Another Great Book

I think I get so confused when I see some of the reviews for Colleen Hoover that are less than 4 stars. I have not read one of her books yet that didn't deserve a 4 or higher. I do have to admit they sometimes start out a little slow for me and I almost should never go from reading a book that was an emotional rollercoaster to one of her books, I should always do a cleansing (so to speak) because from one emotionally draining book to another one leaves me numb sometimes. I should read something funny before jumping to her.

This one definitely will pull on your heart strings. Kenna's story and the letters she wrote to Scotty to heal herself or drown herself in unforgiveness is heart wrenching. I do love how her story with Ledger develops and her relationship with Diem (who is a funny little girl). Heartbreak, tragedy and forgiveness is what this book was all about for me.
