Publisher's summary

War tore them apart. Revenge brought them together.

Decades after civil unrest destroyed nations, newly crafted governments sought to bring unity to the world. But not every nation wanted to bow to new leaders. The rich and powerful seized control of the global economies while the poor were left to die in the streets. Not until they suffered enough would the rebellious bend their knee to authority, but even then, it would be too late to stop what was coming.

Roderick Ames was a Marine and proud of it. He fought tooth and nail to serve his country, though it was a far cry from the once-great nation his father had served. Despite the hardships of perpetual war, his patriotism never wavered. Not even when a missile strike killed everyone in his squad, everyone except him.

A war-torn veteran with no future, Ames is offered the chance of a lifetime, an opportunity to return to the fight greater than he had left it. His benefactor, a billionaire tech tycoon, replaced what the war had taken from him: his arms, his legs, and his hearing. Now Ames is stronger, faster, and deadlier than ever.

But it comes with a catch.

Service to the evil shadow government controlling the world.

Will Ames betray his oath to defend freedom and democracy, or will he fight to his last breath to uphold what his country once stood for?

Damaged, Incorporated is a military science fiction novel for fans of the Halo, Ruins of the Galaxy, and The Last Reaper series.

Cyber military story with a mostly HEA.

Story wise, Damaged, Incorporated had an interesting premise. Of course the wounded veteran to super soldier trope has been done before, but it was an entertaining story nonetheless.
I gave the narrator four stars even though his performance was so-so. There were a lot of different characters and he tried doing the various accents. It didn’t work, but this was a more difficult title because of all the different nationalities. At the beginning of the story he was very slow in his readings but got better towards the end.

Different dangers

Ames lost a lot when the missile hit his convoy. He not only lost his men he lost a leg, arm and his hearing. But a rich benefactor has offered to give most of it back, at least his leg, arm and hearing, nothing can bring back his men. Ames accepts so he can get back in the game and avenge his buddy’s. Soon he finds others like him with special abilities from the same benefactor and the truth of the gifts they have received. But what will he do know that he knows the truth?
The truth of what Ames has to decide has been a what if question that most military personnel has pondered for years and years. This was a wonderful audiobook narrated by T. J. Clark and has so much going on that once the story ends you just can’t wait for more. So, Mr. Avera please hurry and give us the next one.

Adrenaline-fueled action-packed adventure

An accident changed Ames' life forever, throwing him into a crazy web of high tech global conspiracy plots where no one's overt motives can be trusted. Adrenaline-fueled action-packed adventure that will satisfy what you are looking for in the genre and keep you guessing until the end. The final boss battle was brutal! This one has some great characters too - a team you want to root for, villains you want to take out, and a few conflicted characters you just don't know what to do with.

TJ Clark did a great job narrating, the only tiny quibble I had is that the way he does voices are very similar and this book jumps from character to character and location to location frequently with no aural indication of the scene change. So you have to pay attention and because of that I enjoyed this book much more the second time I listened to it as I had more familiarity with the characters and could keep track of everything better.

Good story but iffy Dialogue

The book story line/plot was good, but the dialog sounded more like something out of a pulp detective novel. For me that was a bit of a detraction, but some people might like that method. The story was a good 4.5 star, but the dialog drew it down to a 4.
The narration was well done,

Supermen

I received a free code for this book, but opinions are mine.
good story line, excellent narration. How to turn a bad situation into a positive one. Too much power in too few hands, a thread running through our world today.

5 star edge-of-your-seat military science fiction

Damaged, Incorporated: A Military Science Fiction Novel, my first read/listen from author Drew Avera. A simply enjoyable military science fiction read hands heavily accented on the military. I was given an Audible copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review." The gifting of this book did not affect my opinion of it. The book was well-written & flowed smoothly & quickly. I look forward to reading more from this author, in fact, Traitor is high on my TBR list I especially enjoyed the narrative talents of TJ Clark. (RIP Marley January 20, 2014 - July 24, 2018).

Excellent sci-fi military novel w/ loads of action

Damaged, Incorporated, written by Drew Avera, is an excellent sci-fi military novel with loads of action and a good plot. Follow Ames as he is given a second chance and get revenge on those that crippled him. It is fun to watch Ames develop his character as he weighs the pros of those he now works for and balances democracy at the same time. Overall a great story and I look forward to the next book or whatever Drew has for us! Audio Version: TJ Clark does an excellent job with the narration and characters, especially the MC.

Exciting Military Science Fiction

This was my first experience with Drew Avera's work, and I was entertained by it. If I could rate it at 4 1/2 stars I would as there were a couple of things that I thought were more science fantasy rather than science fiction; however, since that is not possible, I rated upwards to 5 stars. The story was exciting as it was about a soldier with cybernetic enhancements that will have to decide to remain true to his oath or not. I'm looking forward to the next book in the series. TJ Clark's narration was entertaining. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
