Publisher's summary

Sometimes, it takes killing to make a living.

That fiancee? She’s married—to another guy.

The family business? His parents sold it.

Jack Bennet returns from the war to find the life he left behind has moved on without him. The only option he has to make ends meet lies in a military surplus junkyard starship. What’s a former Combat Search and Rescue soldier to do?

Fix up the ship, hire the cheapest pilot—a notorious drunk—and take the first contract that comes up: collect a bounty on one of the most ruthless killers in the Pirate Worlds, a place crawling with thieves, cutthroats, and con artists whose primary language is violence. Jack must abandon his nice-guy persona, or exploit it, if he is to survive.

What could possibly go wrong?

Experience the start of an explosive military sci-fi series from best seller Rick Partlow, author of the Drop Trooper series, and debut author Pacey Holden.

A way to go🖤

A reasonable beginning to the Space Hunter series. Hopefully will be as good as Drop trooper was.
Narration was clear and characters recognizable. He could learn to actually blow a proper raspberry though.

Kinda blah

The mc is not even sidekick material. It's a bland story. Not able to captivate...

Double-Cross on Double-Cross on Double-Cross

A great story of how deep you can dig yourself into trouble in a pirate infested galaxy!

Narrator is excellent

Could not finish. Narration was excellent, but could only carry the inconsistent story so far. The MC starts off as what seems like an outstanding character, then proceeds to whine and become increasingly erratic. Save for his ability to whine while thinking tough thoughts. Maybe he improves, but could not get past half way point.

Great narrator, decent story.

I found it a little bit on the cheesy side.
The main character is a bit childish for his role but fills himself in better at the end. It wasn't quite on the serious side and I appreciate the occasional humor.

Lots of Talking

This book is riddled with talking a lot of lots of talking. One minute the main character whose girlfriend left him and his parents sold his business and just miserable with guilt about killing the next minute he doesn't care at all about killing and shooting people left and right is the weirdest thing I've ever listened to on Audible. I'd say overall the book is okay as long as you don't expect much action.

The absolute top of useless main characters

Its like the author did his absolute best to make the worst main character he could, no conviction, constantly scared or nervous no matter the situation, and almost loses every fight he winds up in, if you are looking for a book with a character that has an iq higher than a rock, look somewhere else, most of the book i was hoping the mc would die and get replaced with a semi-compitent main character
