Publisher's summary

She chose him. He chose revenge. But some choices have deadly consequences.

When Elise agreed to break a vicious curse over the man she loved, she never imagined he was a lost fae prince. But Valen left her to carry out vengeance for his slaughtered family. So when she joins the outlaw fae in their uprising against her own sister, all Elise wants is to forget the prince who holds her heart.

But fate has a different plan.

Reunited in the rescue of a mutual friend, Elise and Valen are forced to decide where they stand in the battle of crowns. As their passion reignites, so too do the dangers threatening to pull them apart for good: a strange magical blight infecting the land, betrayal by one of their own, and a devastating secret not even a fae prince saw coming.

The wicked game for the right to rule has begun. But who will save Elise and Valen from a dark magic with the power to destroy their love forever?

For fans of The Cruel Prince and The Shadows Between Us, this tale of a rebellious princess and a seductive prince is wickedly romantic.

Slow to the point but worth it

The story is a good one and well narrated. The world LJ built has many layers but not so many you get lost. It took a while to get to the inevitable but was worth the journey. Looking forward to the next in the series

Easily a 4.5 - maybe a tad higher…

Wow! I really got into this quickly. Definitely a big, well paced follow up to book one.

And things are getting interesting

4.25 Stars. 🌟

So when we last left two crazy kids, Elise had helped to break the curse that Legion Grey was under and they discover that he was the lost Fae Prince Valen, who was supposedly dead. That unearths all kinds of new information but it also helps Valen to regain ALL of the memories that the curse suppressed.

Unfortunately, with the memories of the deaths of his family fresh in his mind, all he can think of is revenge. And, he doesn't want Elise anywhere near him and his friends (who were part of his Royal Court and cursed as well) while they are going to be going to battle. Typical arrogant guy, right? So what does he decided? Well, to leave her of course. Because that makes perfect sense, am I right?

So, he leaves to go get his vengeance. That vengeance begins by taking the form of attacking supply caravans of the king and doing things to disrupt the kingdom in the hopes that it will cause the people to begin to rebel when food becomes scarce, etc.

Elise on the other hand, has come to the attention of the resistance group and has to prove her loyalty to them by doing some fairly dangerous things. Valen wanted her safe, and now she is in all kinds of danger - without him to protect her. That went well....

The irony is that the resistance group is fighting in the name of the fallen Royal Family. Little do they know that the Night Prince (of said Royal Family) is alive and fighting the same fight that they are. Prince Valen compelled Elise to not be able to tell anyone what his actual name is so it puts her in a difficult situation. Things start to get interesting when the two groups collide.

Finally, we get some forward movement in this book - both with Elise and Valen, and with the resistance group who is fighting the current royals (oh, did I mention, that the new "Queen" is Elise's evil, evil sister who wants Elise dead?) Yep, things are definitely getting interesting....

Gotta go - Book 3 awaits....

Part 2

Lots of action, broken hearts, slow burn tension, and the prince finding his path with the help of his friends and the one who holds his heart.

Story keeps getting better

This is the second book in a series and I am really enjoying where the story is going. Picks up right after the ending of book one it is interesting to watch these characters evolve. You mean a lot of interesting characters in this story and we get to see the main, couple working separately and growing into the people they need to be. There are a couple big reveals in this book in while you can predict where the story is going to journey to get there is definitely worth and is always the narration for the series was excellent.

Why did we add the male narrator?

Dual narrators are either great or a distraction Steina does a phenomenal job with such a fantastic range of voices. The male narrator was dull.

The story was not as good as the first book. However, it was still entertaining For those of you looking for spice, there is none. It is definitely a YA book.

I enjoyed it and will listen to the next one.
