Publisher's summary

"His perfect indifference, and your pointed dislike, make it so delightfully absurd!"

Pride and Prejudice has delighted generations of readers with its unforgettable cast of characters, carefully choreographed plot, and a hugely entertaining view of the world and its absurdities. With the arrival of eligible young men in their neighbourhood, the lives of Mr and Mrs Bennet and their five daughters are turned inside out and upside down. Pride encounters prejudice, upward-mobility confronts social disdain, and quick-wittedness challenges sagacity, as misconceptions and hasty judgements lead to heartache and scandal, but eventually to true understanding, self-knowledge, and love. In this supremely satisfying story, Jane Austen balances comedy with seriousness, and witty observation with profound insight. If Elizabeth Bennet returns again and again to her letter from Mr Darcy, readers of the novel are drawn even more irresistibly by its captivating wisdom.

Simply outstanding

Lindsay Duncan captures the wit and tone of Austen perfectly. Too much focus lately has been about Jane Austen's novels being romances. However, this reading really brings out the true genius of Austen.

Outstanding. 5 stars just isn't enough.

Frivolity and anticlimatic ending

Very Jane Austen. The sensibility of the main characters is refreshing and they are wonderfully inspiring as their feelings are expressed honestly yet without any negative perceptions. The side characters are a little tiresome. The build up in tension between the main characters is satisfying thoroughly, but the anticlimatic confession of the characters to one another is as disappointing as ever. It's not done as a scene but rather a description and this habit of Austen is very anticlimatic. Overall I enjoyed the book though.

Lovely Listen.

As a fan of classic literature, this was a must for my audible collection. Ms Duncan does a lively job and adds much to the experiance.

Wonderful

I thought it was a very typical love story of different birth, but still so well written and performed that it deserves no less than all the praise I can offer. Heck I just wrote in the same style as the book.

Austen did it again

As was the case with Emma, I found Pride and Prejudice to be completely enjoyable. Austen has a delightful way of bringing her characters to life: flaws and all. The settings are rich and expertly detailed without being over the top. I found myself completely enveloped in this story.

Terrific reader

I don't know how she did it, but Lindsey Duncan created a distinct voice for each character that perfectly suited him or her. She made a wonderful novel perfect!
