Why do some products capture our attention, while others flop? What makes us engage with certain products out of habit? Is there a pattern underlying how technologies hook us? This audiobook introduces listeners to the "Hooked Model", a four-step process companies use to build customer habits. Through consecutive cycles through the hook, successful products reach their ultimate goal of bringing users back repeatedly - without depending on costly advertising or aggressive messaging.

Hooked is a guide to building products people use because they want to, not because they have to. Written for product managers, designers, marketers, startup founders, and people eager to learn more about the things that control our behaviors, this audiobook gives listeners:

  • Practical insights to create user habits that stick.
  • Actionable steps for building products people love.
  • Behavioral techniques used by Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest, and other habit-forming products.
  • New for second edition! An additional case study for building health habits.

Nir Eyal distilled years of research, consulting, and practical experience to write a manual for creating habit-forming products. Nir has taught at the Stanford Graduate School of Business and Hasso Plattner Institute of Design. His writing on technology, psychology, and business appears in the Harvard Business Review, The Atlantic, TechCrunch, and Psychology Today. He is also the author of Indistractable: How to Control Your Attention and Choose Your Life.

Lots of great learning. Easily understood.

Lots of great learning. The research is thorough. Examples help convey the ideas. Possibly better to read rather than listen.

Great info for product designers/developers

This book breaks down some key points of user psychology and presents clear action points on how to leverage these for great user engagement. It also asks of you that you do not abuse these tactics and instead focus on your product delivering value to the end user. Excellent book on the topic. Actually finished the entire book. Keeping it for reference.

Nirly perfect

The author is energetic and the information shared is a friendly and has useful tone. He uses such great examples and solid references to point to the science behind the concepts he explains. While he moves quickly into the topics, he takes the time to thoroughly divulge the important nuances of behavior, design, and influence we can have on others and winking at us to read his next book that discovers how Individually we manifest our reality and actions with our mindset. I read indistractable first, and I feel if you like one you must enjoy the other as well. This is a great read and deserves to be consumed more than once to fully appreciate it. Clearly I am not an author by this review, but take it with a grain of salt. I love the author and I love his books. You should read them at least once, including this title.

Reread 3 times

I’ve been talking about this book non-stop. Was already a big fan of Dr. BJ Fogg so it wasn’t hard for me to fall in love with this.

Nir does an excellent job with making us all behavioral scientist page by page. I thought it was be the refreshing but key to building products in this time.

Definitely a keeper
