Publisher's summary

Listen to it because:

Aaron Dembski-Bowden takes an event mentioned in a Warhammer 40,000 rulebook - the Fall of Vilamus - and weaves his Night Lords characters into it, crafting a tense and dramatic tale of honour (or the complete lack thereof) amongst traitors...you'd think they'd know better that to trust one another.

The story:

Driven on by their hatred of the False Emperor, the Night Lords stalk the shadows of the galaxy, eternally seeking revenge for the death of their primarch. Their dark quest leads them to a fractious alliance with the Red Corsairs, united only by a common enemy. Together with this piratical band of renegades, they bring their ways of destruction to the fortress-monastery of the Marines Errant.

Written by Aaron Dembski-Bowden. Narrated by Andrew Wincott.

Intergalactic heist of a giant ship + demons

Likes: Octavia became more like able and fleshed out than in soul Hunter, septimus is still the best character, talos is interesting, variel brings a dark sense of humor, uzas has more “human” moments, the final sequence between the night lords and the corsairs, pt 1 and 3 are incredible and my personal favorite the bleeding eyed character lukoriphus
Dislikes: 2nd part is really slow. No malcharion, less deltrion, oddly less of the exalted.
Recommended: to those who liked the first book but thought Octavia was underdeveloped. Wants expanded lore on the boys midnight clad.
Reason: despite the gripes I had with book it was all minor and builds to a crazy crescendo with suicide maneuvers, killing demons, espionage, brutality, and betrayal. The narrator is incredible. That being said you can not skip soul Hunter in order to read this.

Favorite 40K book so far!

I definitely need to go back and listen again but I'll be enjoying it all, just need to get all the context right in my head. but I loved this book and seeing the gritty side of first claw where they are just having fun and the dark ambition of Talos and the methods he uses to strike back against the Empirium. This was an amazing end of a trilogy and I hope to be able to read more of the night lords in the future. I loved the VA and will be sure to look into other books they've narrated. It's been a blast getting into Warhammer and being able to discuss it with so many people; cant wait to learn and experience more! =]

Great follow up

Second book is in my opinion better than the first. following up a few months after the first it takes the combat and cranks them. The ends of characters are as grim as the setting suggests.

The 8th Fractures.

These books by Bowden remain my favorite look into any of the chaos legions, pre or post heresy. The flavor of the chapter, the fracturing and rebuilding, look into the life of the serfs aboard their ships as well as the astartes and many of the characters within make it, in my opinion one of the best series black library has done.

Andrew Wincott does a great job voicing all the characters clearly, consistently and with emotion. I have docked a star due to the way the many cuts in the book that were more sudden and well doen in the book had too much silence for some of them. I don't think this reflects on Andrew.

One of the best 40k novels continued

A continuation of one of the best Warhammer 40,000 novels. It takes off shortly after the end of Soul Hunter, and introduces a handful of new characters. Andrew Wincott's narration is easy to listen to and understand, though sometimes it can be hard to tell the characters apart by their voices, though there is usually "written" confirmation to which character says what, so it is still somewhat easy to follow. Highly recommended for any Chaos or Night Lords fan that has read or listened to Soul Hunter.

nightlords 2 improves over its previous story

in this novel aaron dembski-Bowden brings a much more coherent and focused story. the characters grow and the dynamics amongst them change by the end of the story. the only thing lacking in this novel would be what is oft lacked in these chaos themed stories a well defined end goal of the main character.

Night Lords Trilogy

Great set of books, I am on my second read through. I really love the story of the remnants of 10th claw and a possible great future for the Night Lords Legion
