Publisher's summary

He is known by many names - Clonelord, Manflayer, Primogenitor. He is the epitome of deceit and perversion, and feared by man and monster alike. Once the Chief Apothecary of the Emperor's Children, the madman known as Fabius Bile possesses a knowledge of genetic manipulation second to none.

Now a renegade among renegades, he is loathed by those he once called brother, and even the most degraded of Chaos Space Marines fear his name. Exiled for his dark experiments, Bile has retreated deep into the Eye of Terror, leaving a trail of twisted abominations in his wake. But when a former student brings word of the ultimate prize for the taking, Bile is unable to resist being drawn once more into the cauldron of war. For in seizing this prize, Fabius Bile might yet discover the one secret his has been unable to unlock...the secret which will prevent his inevitable doom.

I'm new to this kind of work, I was not disappointed. I'm looking forward to getting the next in the series. Fabius Bile, what a character.

incredible

I've never loved so many morally repugnant characters. the writing was spot on for what I want in any Warhammer novel, just enough mystery and foreshadowing to keep you hooked, and all my favorites getting some good action in.

Unbelievable novel

When I first delved into warhammer, I hated Fabius Bile. But a friend of mine talked me into reading this novel, and I must say, I have found a new respext and love for the primogenitor. Within the first few hours, this book quickly made its way to the top of my favorites list. It is beautifully written, and the performance is simply amazing. A must read for anyone who lokes Warhammer 40k and its lore!

More than you bargained for

I expected a gruesome book about the 40k version of Dr. Frankenstein, instead I got a swashbuckling adventure in the eye of terror with likable characters and an interesting look into the emperor's children. This is warhammer writing at it's most fun and it makes full use of the ridiculousness and complexity of the setting. You will not be disappointed.

Exactly what I wanted

A great story about a great character. Like Ahriman, Bile is a thinker and I appreciate that.
Narrator did a pretty good too.

First step into the great trilogy

An excellent novel fleshing out one of the most notorious yet intriguing villains in the 40k universe. A far cry from the sensless murderer he seems to be, Fabius is shown as so much more and actually one of the most important characters for 40k past and future. A must listen for 40k fans as the first instalment in an excellent trilogy.

Slaanesh Approves

Great performance by John Banks as always. Story got a little bogged down in the middle, but totally worth persevering - great ending!

It's Warhammer.

Story is a pretty typical Warhammer story. Blood. guts, and mayhem. None of the characters stand out that much in the overall scheme of things including Fabius himself. It's an enjoyable tale, but not something I will remember for years to come.
