Publisher's summary

A group of women walk into a bar....

Sounds like the start of a crude joke, right? Yeah, well, the joke's on me because I'm investigating the gorgeous one in the heels with the great body. Jensen Montgomery.

Now, I'm treading that area between right and wrong, good and bad, where sin and honor meld to become gray. Not that I haven't been here before. Hell, I've made my career in the gray. I never hesitate going to battle when my gut tells me I'm right. And right now, my gut - among other things - is speaking loud and clear about Jen Montgomery.

She's in a bad situation. Not just bad - deep and black and ugly.

And I'm about to make it worse. She just doesn't know it yet.

Contains mature themes.

Great story and steamy!

Loved the story and the narration was great. The only bummer is that I knew who the bad people were as soon as they were introduced into the story.

Otherwise it was really well written and I enjoyed Eli and Jen’s story.

Great listen!

Love this book - we first met Eli in Paths as an undercover FBI agent and Jenn in Athica Lane, Cam's sister. They've come together due to a "bad situation." Narrators do an excellent job.

Eli & Jen

Who knew that white collar crime could be a thriller!? Ahhh. Elijah Petit. Loved him in Vines. I’m so happy we are able to get his story! And to actually get the Montgomery’s? Starting with Jensen? This just makes me so happy!!! I hung on every word of this book. I honestly tried to drag it out so that it would last longer. It’s a must read/listen - must own!

Still my favourite book by Brynne Asher!

stephen Dexter brings a smoky deliciousness to Elijah Pettit that I find it hard to hear in my head as I read. I also loved Lydia Dornet's brassy sharpness as Jensen Montgomery.

I'm very hopeful that Tantor Studios will decide soon to pick up Broken Halo, Brynn Asher's middle child in the Montgomery series will break you apart as it glues you back together in all the best ways.

Outstanding

Loved this book. I started it, hoping to read for an hour, and instead I read all night. The characters are intriguing including a hot alpha FBI man and a CFO corporate lady who is being targeted. I was caught off guard by the complete reveal of who was responsible for all the trouble and why they did it. I suspected one but the other was a total surprise. The audible was performed beautifully, perfectly. Highly recommend. I hope there is a book two.

wish I could give 4.5

Wish I could give 4.5 because I only took off for the predictably of who was behind the suspense aspect of the story. Though it was still well written. I did feel like the hero was a bit overly focused on the heroines ass...but maybe that is really more typical of the male mind. I appreciated that the heroine was NOT some young virgin.

Not a good male narrator.

The story of this book was really good. The storyline pulled you along just like it should. The only thing I didn’t like was the male narrator. He started out okay but as the book went along he was so whiny sounding and over feminine when reading the male parts. It really made it hard to finish the book.

Great promise

I loved the idea and the start of this book. It just ended up having a very long middle…and ending.
It felt like there were a lot of things thrown into the mix and there were vague answers at times.
I guessed what would happen and though I wasn’t completely right and pleasantly surprised I was wrong, there were still a few things left hanging.
I overall liked the storyline and as looking forward to reading the rest of the series.

The narrative part of this book wasn’t great. The female did a much better job than the male seeing as how at times you couldn’t tell who was talking, but she at least made it clear with emotion. His feminine voice would pop up when it was supposed to be him or another male talking and it became very confusing.

Jen and Eli

Jen and Eli are sizzling from the beginning. It's a protector story with a strong FMC. It threw a few curveballs. This was a great story, fast-paced, and I enjoyed characters popping in from other books I have enjoyed. This story can be read as a stand-alone.
The narration was enjoyable and really brought out the personalities of the characters.

Elijah my prophet!

I don't usually like this sort of story and find them a bit boring, however I was pleasantly surprised. This story pulled me in from the beginning, probably because the male narrator sounds like sex when he talks.
