Publisher's summary

Even before Myristal went out, before the battle of the Heavens and the Earth broke out, before the Black General was imprisoned on the Mountain of Skulls, a wizard had wandered the endless expanses of the Nameless World in search of his past and his future.

This is the legend of Ash, the Master of a Thousand Words, the Bloody General. What's true and what is fiction is up to you to decide. But this is how his story was told to young children, so that they wouldn't be afraid and have nightmares, back when the legends of the old world were still remembered.

A great addition to this series.

I really enjoyed this book, it'll be interesting to see how Ash comes into the future books. I really thought Ash was well written, not just a murder hobo.

Ash with the answers

This book give so much clarification of the nameless world and ties everything together masterfully.

Good Start

I like the characters in this tail. The MC is a jester of some dark renown and he is cursed. Will be interested to see if the author leaves him a bumbling drunk.

fun side story

Its a good adventure with some fun story telling and an amusing main character, it fills in a few details about the universe as a whole and adds to it as well, It also raises a few questions.

you will probably want to read this after at least book 5 since that is where the links start to appear in the main series.

worth it if you're a fan of the series, but

it falls woefully short of what we have been accustomed to in the main series.

Rest of series is better

The rest of the series is better.

Pro: some interesting background, character development was good.

Con: the book jumps around so it gets a little confusing when listening. Lots of dates that don’t mean much if you can’t compare to last chapter to see if it’s before or after the current one.

The performance was horrible, monotone droning. Hard to keep interesting while listening, fell asleep at least twice while listening.

hard to listen to.

if I wanted to listen to a monotone lecture I would read nonfiction. I do have more nonfiction titles in my library than fiction. the reader for the other 10 books so far is much better.

50/50

Half of this book is boring. It’s legit half of the book. The chapters switch every other chapter. One part tells how Ash got powerful; those are awesome. The other part consist of him joining an adventuring group. Pointless story. Ash nerfs himself and acts like an idiot. He acts like a naive child. It’s so bad. The group has a horrible dynamic and you can’t wait for them to all die. They are so stupid that when Ash tells them who he is, they don’t believe him. They’re afraid of the real Ash, but can’t stand the Ash that travels with them. Do yourself a favor, skip those chapters. I believe it’s every odd chapter
