This murder mystery / police procedural / legal thriller kept me confused on a lot of levels. And then threw in a few More Twists! Gotta Love this author!!

Compelling

Honestly couldn’t stop listening to this book. I didn’t particularly like the characters who always seemed to have an underlying motivation for their often unsavory thoughts and actions, but that was the intrigue...why and what drives them.. Narration was excellent. Am happy I recently discovered this author and now will listen to another Rachel Abbott book.

7 hours in and it finally gets going…

The only characters i liked in this book were the police officers, and I can’t tell if that’s the writing or the voices the narrator created. I get that Evie was supposed to portray an emotionless woman… but after 7 hours of hearing her dead lifeless voice, I wanted to kill myself!
The narrator was very competent, I just disliked the way she presented the main characters.
Also, I wish these voice actors would stop making their voice imperceptibly low, it’s very hard for a hearing challenged person even with earphones to understand… and if you turn it up the next normal voice will blow your ears out!

Narrator spoke toSoftly at times

The narrator talked in a normal voice but often made me have to turn up the volume quite often because her voice would all of a sudden become barely audible. She seemed to almost whisper so I turned
the sound up. Then she would start talking normal again and I’d turn the sound back down. It was so irritating. The volume needs to be consistent. Don’t remember this problem happening before on other books.

Love This Duet

I actually read the second book first which really blew me away but this book introduces and explains the complexity of Stephanie & Gus’s relationship. The detective work was so good! Evie is a brilliant character as you just don’t know up to the bitter end is she the victim or a cunning meticulous murderer. Just enough was given to drive me crazy mad in the best way in trying to figure it out and loved that I couldn’t!!! Narration was excellent.
