Say something about yourself!
Rarely am I speechless when giving a review...but there is SOOO much to say and all of it sounds kind of hokey....kind of like when you are enthralled in a soap opera and you try to explain it to a friend and it just comes out sounding so dumb, but in the mean time you are the one running to your DVR after work praying something else got resolved today!
That sums up Alpha...it wasn't contrived drama...it wasn't over the top ridiculous drama that you could NEVER see happening....it wasn't really an inst-love drama....and it wasn't a virgin meets billionaire love story. What it was was HOT...if there were words larger than capital size I would use them. This story is explicit, sensual, rough, raw, mind blowing and all without being raunchy. I have never listened to this author before but I think all my credits are about to be used!
Imagine you are a broke 26 year old, you are trying desperately to make ends meet, but they don't. You are working full time, you had to put your mother in a home due to her mental issues, and your little brother is in college and he NEEDS your help...then there are the aging grandparents in Florida barely getting by that you feel compelled to help, and there is you. You don't think about you much in this hell-hole you call life because you have to take care of others. That is the life of our leading lady Kyrie...her whole world changed when at 19 her father was murdered and she went from college sorority chick to sole provider and caregiver of her family. She has made her way through life the best way she can and life has kicked her at every chance. Jobs are scarce, and she just lost hers, but she is tough...she has to be. In one day she lost her job, got an eviction notice, her electricity was shut off and she was hungry....and then a check arrived for 10 thousand dollars. She had no choice but to cash it, and then another one came, and then another...and after 12 months of checks and 12 months of being able to finally make ends meet a large man, hat in hand is sent to "collect her" for his employer....the check writer. See these checks come with a string...a string she was terrified to lead to their source, and their source has a story of his own....see he's been watching Kyrie for years...he is obsessed with her...wants her...and now he owns her and she knows it.
*shudder* All I can say without giving the rest of it away is dang that was G-O-O-D, and the best part....it was ONE book, not three....not a cliffhanger....we get the end of the story. Now personally I would be okay with a book 2, but as for book 1 it left me panting for more and the need to re-listen right away. The narrator is up there with Jill Redcliff, her telling of the story was full of passion, full of emotion, and her male voice was....*shudder*...oh my! Gideon Cross is still number 1 but the race was close and I will look for books done by both her and this author again. Wow, just wow. Nice find!!!
Wow, just wow! First, let me say that at the time of this review this book is under $4 for a full length book! Then let me say, I would have gladly paid $30 for it!
I will warn you, this IS erotica, the entire book was a dance of emotionally charged getting to know you hot hot hot graphic graphic graphic steam! This book is mostly from the viewpoint of the female Dom Mistress Violet. The author lets you into the Dom's head in what she is thinking and feeling while trying to break in a new sub, Mackenzie. Mac is not a typical sub...he's all alpha male hard ass cop...but he is wired to want to be controlled in the bedroom. He knows in his heart he is a sub, but no Mistress has ever fully broken him and he has never willingly surrendered.
Seeing into the mindset of a Dom was fascinating. Watching this story unfold was riveting! I did feel that the narrator took too many diction lessons...a bit curt with her enunciations but it didn't detract from the story too much. Listening to how a Dom/sub relationship is forged was really enlightening and entertaining. If you like erotica even a little then this should be an automatic download for you. There was passion, chemistry, hot scenes, a murder mystery, and a keep you guessing till the end plot. It had me at minute one! Just hit add to cart!
This is book 4 but I didn't know that and it didn't seem to matter much. This group of books follows the lives of soldiers circa 1800's after the war, which war not sure, but during this war there were several pairs of men who found solace and comfort in each other and continued their "relationship" after the war. None of them are actually homosexual, and it was made clear in this book that their feelings were only for this one other man.
Having said that, this is the story or Ian and Derrick. They have been together for 5 years and Ian decides it's time for him to get married to a woman, he thinks this will help the relationship between him and Derrick because he plans to convince the woman to accept Derrick in their bed too. Derrick doesn't see the need and feels like Ian is trying to replace him...so he is grumpy and ticked!
Sophie was promised to Ian 7 years ago, an arrangement between their fathers. When she gets word that Ian is ready to marry she is ecstatic! Life has been hard for Sophie, her father believes women should not be seen or heard or speak unless a man tells her she can. To drill this into Sophie she is beaten and mocked on a regular basis and her brother (oh I hope he was a step brother) likes to teach her lessons on how to behave properly with a man. Sophie's only hope is this marriage and she prays she can live and endure until that day.
This story wasn't my normal type of story but I have to say it was really great. There were detailed scenes between M/M, M/F, and M/M/F...and all helped the story progress and the drama unfold. Great action, hot scenes, wonderful story. Great job!
*a word of warning, both the "C" word and "P" word are used to describe a female body part and the f-bomb was dropped no fewer than 100 times. If you have serious problems with any of those words don't get this book, they are all used often. The "C" word was used in an anotomical context not in a derogatory context.
