Publisher's summary

This program features an author's note read by Nora Roberts, sharing her inspiration for The Lost Bride Trilogy and the incredible personal history behind these stories.

Inheritance is the first in The Lost Bride Trilogy by #1 New York Times bestselling author Nora Roberts—a tale of tragedies, loves found and lost, and a family haunted for generations.

1806: Astrid Poole sits in her bridal clothes, overwhelmed with happiness. But before her marriage can be consummated, she is murdered, and the circle of gold torn from her finger. Her last words are a promise to Collin never to leave him…

Graphic designer Sonya MacTavish is stunned to learn that her late father had a twin he never knew about—and that her newly discovered uncle, Collin Poole, has left her almost everything he owned, including a majestic Victorian house on the Maine coast, which the will stipulates she must live in for at least three years. Her engagement recently broken, she sets off to find out why the boys were separated at birth—and why it was all kept secret until a genealogy website brought it to light.

Trey, the young lawyer who greets her at the sprawling clifftop manor, notes Sonya’s unease—and acknowledges that yes, the place is haunted…but just a little. Sure enough, Sonya finds objects moved and music playing out of nowhere. She sees a painting by her father inexplicably hanging in her deceased uncle’s office, and a portrait of a woman named Astrid, whom the lawyer refers to as “the first lost bride.” It’s becoming clear that Sonya has inherited far more than a house. She has inherited a centuries-old curse, and a puzzle to be solved if there is any hope of breaking it…

Critic reviews

"Romance queen Roberts takes all of the beloved elements of classic gothic romances, including a marvelously atmospheric old mansion as well as a spunky heroine starting over in life, then puts her own inventive spin on things... an incisively etched cast of characters and a spooktacular plot that will keep readers up long past their regular bedtimes."—Booklist (starred)

"Roberts is in fine form here. Her lush, ethereal world of ghosts and spirits is the perfect foil for Sonya’s down-to-earth, almost spartan manner... Exciting launch for Roberts’ new trilogy."—Kirkus Reviews (starred)

Part 1

Never liked books that are not stand alone.Really didn,t like this ending. Usually have no issues with Nora Roberts but this is a terrible way to end a book.

Love the story

Loved the book. The narrator started to get in my nerves with how the end of every sentence is so breathy.

I Hate Cliffhangers but I Freaking Love this Book!!

I knew Inheritance was a paranormal romance, but I didn’t know it was going to be a haunted house book with a family curse! After discovering her fiancé and her cousin having sex in her bed, Sonya makes some necessary changes. She ends up needing to quit her job in Boston then gets a visit from a lawyer in Maine. She discovers that her late father had a twin who recently passed and left her a manor house and an inheritance that’s worth quite a lot of money. The catch, she has to live there for 3 months. She loves the houses, adopts a puppy, falls for the son of the lawyer (Trey), and her best friend Cleo comes to live her. However, she is being haunted by ghosts within the house. One ghosts loves music, and is always playing music from The Ramones to Taylor Swift. Another ghost is teaching her dog tricks, but there is one that is evil. One that is malevolent and wants Sonya and Cleo out. She is who is killing the brides of the Poole family. She is the reason for the curse, and it falls to Sonya with the help of Trey and Cleo to end the curse.

And I had the BEST time reading the book. Whenever a new song was mentioned, I went to YouTube and looked it up if I didn’t know it (Peter Gabriel’s In Your Eyes) or played the song when I did know it (Lover by Tayler Swift). All of the ghosts had different personalities, and we (the reader) got to know them as Sonya then Cleo got to know them. I loved the found family that Sonya had with Cleo and Trey and the friends that were made in the small town. The romance is slow burn and it’s more closed doors as it typically is for Nora Roberts. My only gripe is that it ends on a cliffhanger. We have to wait a year for book 2.

loved the book, Nora Roberts is by far my favorite author

Couldn't wait to read it. I love her trilogies. She always does a fantastic job. I like the ghost and their quirky personalities. The characters are great, love the location, the description of the house, I just hate to wait for the next book and knowing they'll be another wait for the last book.

Great storyline!

Such a good story. I love Nora's trilogies and this first book didn't disappoint. Narrator is wonderful. Some of the men's voices sounded a little dopey, but not something that would prevent you from enjoying the book. 100% recommend and can't wait for books 2 and 3.

CLIFFHANGER

You'd think I'd know enough by now to wait for the whole series to be released on Audible. I didn't but hopefully the wait for the second and third instalments won't be too long as I thoroughly enjoyed this book. There were snippets from previous books but not so many that this book felt like a rehash of any of them. I liked all the characters and the narration by Brittany Pressley was just great. I'm going to look for more books narrated by her.

Hard to tell characters apart.

I enjoyed the story itself. Nora Roberts is one of my mother's favorite authors. I usually enjoy Nora's books as well.

I had a hard time staying focused on the book. The narrator has a nice voice but her characters kind of all blend together. I couldn't tell who was speeking. I'm sure she will do better with practice.

An Enthralling Story

Warning this book ends on a cliffhanger. If you’re a Nora Fan though then you know that her fantasy series of late don’t always follow the one couple HEA per book and the story tends to carry over throughout the series.

This book serves as the set up for the myth and lore. Plus we get to meet the characters. I’m enjoying the ride and can’t wait for next year when we get book 2.
