Mais on découvre au fil du spectacle que derrière cette fascination absolue, se cache une haine à l'encontre de cette contrebasse, encombrante et envahissante, car bientôt l'éloge pompeux laisse affleurer les frustrations et les rancœurs du musicien et de l'homme.

Sous l'apparence de la conversation ordinaire, Nathalie Sarraute met à nu avec un humour et une précision diaboliques nos angoisses irrationnelles, nos peurs obscures devant l'autre, cet ennemi.
