 North and South follows the young Margaret Hale as she is caught in the middle of the brutal world between employers and local workers following the Industrial Revolution. She finds herself at odds from the very start with John Thornton, a local factory owner and self-made man, as she believes him to be unfeeling and callous about the poverty and suffering of the workers while John sees Margaret as haughty and entitled. Further conflicts arise when the workers strike and Margaret feels compelled to intervene with no regard for her own safety.  

First published in 1921, Rilla of Ingleside is the 8th book in the Anne of Green Gables series. It is WW1 and Canada has entered the war. Young men enthusiastically join up, while mothers and sweethearts stay behind and fill the jobs that once were only for men. The Canadian view of the war and the US president is unique and is revealed through thought, conversation and Rilla's diary. Rilla, the youngest Blythe, grows from the vanity that we saw in her in Rainbow Valley into a caring and responsible young woman.  

First published in 1881, the subtitle of the book reads "It was written as a book "for children and those who love children." Heidi, as a 5-year-old orphan, has been handed off by her young aunt, Dete, to live with her grandfather in the Swiss Alps. The story follows her life as she falls in love with her grandfather and he with her and the life of goat-herding that they share.

These six plays are Japanese classics from the 14th century and are presented in the order of a traditional Nō programme. Nō, the Japanese word for "skill", is a form of Japanese musical drama that originated in the eighth century, and is the oldest major theatre art that still survives today. Alongside Nō plays were kyōgen plays, which were short works typically inserted as a comedic interlude of sorts between the more classical Nō performances.
