Izzy Sage is settling into her new job, enjoying her new romance, and only has one thing on her mind: choosing a new assistant to help her at Belle Isle’s death gate. All of that changes when the gate malfunctions. Instead of dragging someone over, though, it sends five people back. Years ago, a group of trainees disappeared while on a tour of the facility. There was no rhyme or reason to what happened, and the higher-ups assumed they died during the malfunction. Five of them have returned though, and they haven’t aged a day.

Izzy Sage was looking for answers when she took a job as keeper of the death gate in Detroit. Unfortunately, the answers being delivered aren’t what she was hoping for. Personal worries have to take a backseat, though, because the reaper world is in an uproar. News that their former leader Renley Hatfield was working with the enemy has spread, but that doesn’t mean the good guys can trust everybody that’s left.

Izzy Sage should be on top of the world, but the revenant threat has her watching her back. Things only get worse when an oddball cult looking for a door to another world show up on Belle Isle and start circling the parking lot while demanding entrance to the other side. Izzy is out of her league when it comes to dealing with the group - especially their charismatic leader who pushes all of her buttons - and when a body drops outside the aquarium, her suspicion is piqued.
