Sie jagen seinen Mördern hinterher und stellen sie, müssen sie aber wieder ziehen lassen. Als sie später die tückische Salzkruste des Schot el Dscherid, überqueren, geraten sie in einen lebensgefährlichen Hinterhalt der Mörder. Zwar können Kara und Halef einen der Angreifer töten und den hinterhältigen Hamd el Amasat in die Flucht schlagen, doch ihr Schot-Führer Sadek wird getötet, und der Salzsee verschlingt ihn.
