Katja has long spent her life buried in the pain and sorrow of her past, a vampire abandoned to her fate for over 300 years, she never expects to meet another who could help her reclaim her existence. Redcliffe Park, Northumberland, 1819. Dominic Thorne, Earl of Redcliffe, arrives in Redcliffe village in the far north of England to view his inheritance. The estate, Redcliffe Park, is miles from a decent town and in need of extensive renovation. The former earl, Dominic's uncle, was disliked for his failure to pay his debts, and it’s suspected he distrusted banks and stashed his wealth in a secret place on the estate. It’s assumed Dominic is cut from the same cloth as his uncle—or even worse.

In 1942, the Allies were losing, Germany seemed unstoppable, and every able man in England was fighting. Believing that Britain was locked in an existential battle, Winston Churchill had already created a secret agency, the Special Operations Executive (SOE), whose spies were trained in everything from demolition to sharpshoot­ing. Their job, he declared, was to 'set Europe ablaze'. But with most men on the front lines, the SOE was forced to do something unprecedented: recruit women. Thirty-nine answered the call, leaving their lives and families to become saboteurs in France.

The unlikely heroine of this novel is the bashful and unadventurous Fanny Price, who occupies a Cinderella-like position in the residence of her wealthy cousins, the Bertrams, at Mansfield Park. Fanny is the butt of ridicule for the young Bertram sisters (Maria and Julia), and is relentlessly bullied by her manipulative and penny-pinching aunt, the widowed Mrs Norris.

An unkempt man sits in a dingy and extremely untidy bedsit room. A half brick crashes through his window. Not at all surprised, the man resignedly attempts to clear up the broken glass, succeeding only in cutting his hand in the process. A knock at his door is unwelcome but persistent so he opens it to admit the bustling Mrs. G. who announces herself as the local cleaning lady. She saw the brick-throwing incident and wants to know if the man is injured. Over the course of the play Mrs. G. sets about clearing up the man’s flat and does her best to clear up his life, too.

After the events of the gothic horror novels Eyes Like Blue Fire and Water Like Crimson Sorrow, the vampire Katja finds herself tackling a great deal. Having destroyed many of the revenant undead and occult relics left behind in the wake of her battle with Marie Gaston, she is exhausted and left with many questions about the master who made her his fledgling and the only other remaining vampire who can tell her more of his secrets, Mateo.

Having discovered many of Anton's secrets, Katja must now seek out Raven and attempt to rescue him from the nightmare that his life has become. As she seeks him out, Raven is being eaten up by the horror of his own past. A past full of guilt, pain, and a terrible revenant who is more than she seems. In time, these two paths will come to meet and a final confrontation that could mean the end of so many things will be in store.

The Ark has left the solar system and taken with it the first humans to ever get this far. And even though Alissa was promoted to Chief of Security back on Earth, she wants nothing more than to escape back into a quiet existence with her friends. But he is still on her mind. The man with the silver glove plagues her dreams. This man she dreams of isn't the same as the monster back on Earth. Alissa can't escape the overwhelming drive to save the man that tried to kill her. Seeking answers may protect The Ark from future threats, but that fight might just cost them their lives.
