Muestra tanto la radicalidad con la que Nietzsche rechazó el cristianismo como las diversas declaraciones totalmente incompatibles con tal rechazo. Karl Jaspers interpreta esta contradicción diciendo que Nietzsche jamás llegó a asumir las ideas cristianas. Por lo tanto, tampoco tuvo necesidad de rechazar nada que previamente hubiera aceptado.
