Valjean eventually reforms and becomes a successful businessman, benefactor, and mayor of a northern town.

Es una historia que gira en torno a la vida del ex presidiario Jean Valjean, quien, regenerado tras 19 años de presidio por robar pan para alimentarse, sigue cargando con su oscuro pasado. Obligado a llevar pasaporte amarillo que prueba su condición de ex presidiario es rechazado por la sociedad, hasta encontrarse con Monseñor Myriel, que le concede el perdón por haberle robado a cambio de que se comprometa a hacer el bien. Desde entonces Jean Valjean decide dedicar su vida a la filantropía.
