A Treasury of Kahlil Gibran, which sold over a hundred thousand copies, led to a wide demand for a sequel volume. The demand has been met in A Second Treasury of Kahlil Gibran. In this magnificent volume Gibran's writing in his beloved mother tongue, Arabic, have been translated superbly into English by his great friend, Anthony Rizeallah Ferris.

Kahlil Gibran (1883-1931) was a Lebanese American of Assyrian descent, an artist, poet and writer. He was born Gibran Khalil Gibran in Lebanon (at the time a Syrian Province of the Ottoman Empire) and spent much of his productive life in the United States. While most of Gibran's early writings were in Syriac and Arabic, most of his work published after 1918 was in English. Gibran also took part in the New York Pen League, also known as the "immigrant poets" (al-mahjar), alongside other important Lebanese American authors.

Kahlil Gibran's 'The Madman' was the first book he penned in English. Beautifully written, it is a short collection of parables on God, animals, human nature, and life's big questions. Not as well known as his classic: 'The Prophet', but some would say just as inspirational, or possibly more so. Educated in Lebanon, United States, and France, Gibran was influenced by the European modernists of the late 19th century, but even more by Francis Marrash, who introduced poetic prose and prose poetry in the Arab world. Gibran's style of writing and ideas he wrote about are believed to have been greatly influenced by Marrash, particularly the concept of universal love.
