When it appeared in 1670, Baruch Spinoza’s Theological-Political Treatise was denounced as the most dangerous book ever published. In A Book Forged in Hell, Steven Nadler tells the fascinating story of this extraordinary book: its radical claims and their background in the philosophical, religious, and political tensions of the Dutch Golden Age, as well as the vitriolic reaction these ideas inspired.

What if God is not outside the universe looking in… but is reality itself? Baruch Spinoza proposed one of the most radical ideas in the history of philosophy: God and Nature are one. Not God above the world. Not God ruling from outside creation. But one infinite reality expressing itself in all things. In Spinoza and the Philosophy of Divine Reality, Clayton Louis Turnage explores the life, thought, and enduring scandal of the philosopher who erased the wall between creator and creation—and changed metaphysics forever. Cast out by his own religious community, denounced as an atheist, ...

Though it first aroused anger and controversy rather than admiration and acceptance, A Theologico-Political Treatise was a landmark in the analysis of theology (with particular reference to the Bible and its Jewish and Christian interpretations) and its relationship to philosophy and politics...

Benedict de Spinoza's Ethics, first published in 1677, constitutes a major systematic critique of the traditional and religious foundations of philosophical thought. In it, Spinoza follows a logical step-by-step format consisting of definitions, axioms, propositions, proofs, and corollaries to create a comprehensive inquiry into the truth about God, nature, and humans' place within the universe. From these broad metaphysical themes, Spinoza derives what he considered to be the highest principles of religion and society and lays out an ethical system in which reason is the supreme value.

Listen to the greatest thinkers of all time as they explore the deepest questions of human existence.

From the 17th to 18th centuries, bold thinkers cast off the authority of ancient traditions and embraced reason as the primary tool for understanding the world. These rationalists, or early modern philosophers, included René Descartes, Baruch Spinoza, and Gottfried Wilhelm Leibniz—visionaries whose answers to profound questions remain relevant today. Early Modern Philosophy: Descartes and the Rationalists covers the key philosophers of this period in 12 fascinating half-hour lectures, presented by award-winning teacher James D. Reid, Professor of Philosophy at Metropolitan State University.

The Geometry of God: Understanding the Revolutionary Philosophy of Baruch Spinoza is a compelling exploration of one of history’s most daring and misunderstood thinkers. Baruch Spinoza, the exiled philosopher of Amsterdam, redefined the very nature of God, freedom, and human existence. His vision of a universe governed by reason, necessity, and divine unity would influence the Enlightenment, shape modern science, and continue to inspire seekers of truth centuries later. In clear and engaging language, The Geometry of God guides readers through Spinoza’s life, ideas, and enduring legacy....

The Atheist’s God is a profound exploration of Baruch Spinoza’s vision of God, religion, and reason. Rejecting the notion of an interventionist deity, Spinoza redefines divinity as Nature itself, eternal and immutable. He critiques blind faith in miracles and superstitions, proposing instead a devotion based on intellectual love and the pursuit of knowledge. The book examines the separation of philosophy and theology, the defense of freedom of thought and democracy, and offers a radical critique of political and religious power. A provocative work that invites readers to rethink ...

Baruch Spinoza was one of the most important and controversial thinkers of the 17th century. He rejected both the mind-body dualism of Descartes and traditional religious views, which got him violently attacked for atheism while he was actually seeking to redefine God as the whole of the laws of Nature. His metaphysics are a brilliant attempt to reconcile human freedom with a belief in scientific explanation, and his Theological-Political Treatise, the first argument for democracy by a major philosopher, contributed as much as the Declaration of Independence or Thomas Paine's Common Sense to modern liberal, secular, and democratic thinking.

The Book of Baruch (ספר ברוך, Sepher Baruch), also known as 1 Baruch, is a non-canonical text attributed to Baruch ben Neriyah (ברוך בן נריה), a scribe and close associate of the prophet Jeremiah. The current version of the text we have today was likely put together by a Jewish author around the second century BCE or a little later. This new translation of the Book of Baruch (Kindle format) is released to gather some preliminary feedback from my readers. If you prefer a printed text, it is included in "Unheard Voices of Hebrew Kings and Prophets" - a collection of seven ...

The Book of Baruch (ספר ברוך; Sepher Baruch) is a well-known non-canonical text attributed to Baruch ben Neriyah, a scribe and close associate of the prophet Jeremiah. Because 1 Baruch was incorporated into the Greek Septuagint (LXX), some are familiar with this ancient text. But many do not realize there are actually four books of Baruch in existence. Therefore, this edition presents a collection of four ancient texts attributed to Baruch in a new, modern, and culturally nuanced translation: The Book of Baruch, The Syriac Apocalypse of Baruch, the Slavonic Apocalypse of Baruch, and ...
