About Michelle's Collection

"I’m fascinated by intimate details of women’s lives—past and present. What did they live through? How did they navigate the constraints of their time and circumstance? What were they unable to say? I am deeply encouraged by what the women before me accomplished despite generations of patriarchy, misogyny, racism, sexism, ableism—all the -isms that make women dig in deeper and insist that our victories come to pass, that our voices be heard, that our stories be told. I’ve included both historical fiction and nonfiction accounts of women’s fights, rights, and lives. Their stories inspire me to write with an empowering truth I hope will edify my readers and listeners and to live my own life in a way that honors the strength and sacrifices of those who came before me." —Michelle Stimpson
