Authentic, heart-wrenching, infinitely hopeful

I’m a pretty masculine guy, I ride motorcycles, drive a big truck, shoot guns, etc. I rarely cry. This book had me ugly crying at one point. And welling up with tears as several others. It’s one of the most real, authentic books I’ve read in a long time. Absolutely worth it.

Very Inspirational

I totally recommend this book! It is such a great book! I feel that more people need to spread the word on breaking stereotypes and learn how to respect people that are different. The world is full of diversity and people need to realize that and respect it. It’s reality. Not only am I a huge fan of Molly but I love her story!
I too, was bullied and I think people need to learn to be kind, and not put a target on someone’s back. I feel all bullies out there (you know who you are) need to seek help and not take it out on ‘easy targets’. The way Molly talks about her journey in life so far, is so mature and refreshing. It’s refreshing because, a majority of people look at things negativity and more people need to think of the glass half full!
I purchased the book the day it came out!
I love it so much!❤️

3 books with varied results

This book is really 3 books, which is weird to say about something so short

- Youtube career trajectory 2/5 stars: this is like hearing a film star talk about their rise to fame over decades, honing their craft, the trials and tribulations, the ups and downs... only replace all of that with how many followers your youtube channel has.

- Motivational speaking: 3/5 stars: your reaction to this area will depend on how you feel about positive but fairly generic motivational speaking and affirmations.

- Personal memoir: 5/5 stars. This was the most interesting parts and if you get the audiobook it should be for this. Her life story and experiences are interesting and well-told -- both the parts specific to be being blind and the parts which have nothing to do with blindness. I'd love to have heard more about her as a person.

I’m visually impaired

I’m visually impaired and I found a lot of similarities in myself and Molly’s stories. It made me feel very empowered to follow my dream to do more public speaking. Thank you Molly. Thank you for inspiring me and being an advocate for our community

Loved it so much!

I'm so glad Molly read her book, first of all. I've been a follower for a while now and learned more than I knew previously through this book. It sort of fits many of her different videos into the story of her life in a way that the videos don't because they are just that, videos added at all different times on specific topics. The advice given and lessons learned are something I could go back and listen to again for inspiration because they're that powerful. To me it always seems that Molly's success and confidence came easily because of her attitude and personality, but it's obviously not that simple and I appreciate her sharing her struggles. Love hearing about her support systems and the importance of those. Molly is an amazing person and even though I'm older than her, she's a role model for sure.

You must read this book!!

This is a book about Molly's life. Her story is relatable even for a sighted person. I have been watching her YouTube video's for about 3 years now, and I still didn't know about 1/2 the stuff she says in this book. Its really inspirational to go after your dreams. And as someone who struggles with mental health its awesome to know that not everything comes easy for anyone. She really shows her personalty in this book as well, witch I love!

Who knew

Who knew that a 25 year old woman could inspire and teach me as a 44 year old woman. Her stories are not only an inspiration, but have really deep life lessons. I am so grateful to have been inspired by Molly. Keep up the great work that you are doing.

Interesting

This is not a book I would have chosen had it not been offered as one of the free Audible Originals for this month. I had never heard of Molly Burke. I'm glad I had the opportunity to choose it and listen. I ended up liking it and I even got a little emotional at some of the parts discussing her early years. Then I got really emotional when she talked about Gypsy passing away.

It's Not What it Looks Like is a quick listen, only 3 hours and 5 minutes, and is narrated by Molly herself. She sounded as though she was reading it but that didn't bother me at all. She isn't a seasoned audiobook narrator so I got what I expected and honestly, I prefer to hear it in her own voice rather than have a typical narrator.

I really liked the little intermission where she discussed Guide Dogs vs Service Dogs vs Emotional Support Animals and fake service animals. I think this is an important issue that needs to be discussed more frequently and should honestly be screamed from rooftops until people get it through their heads that they are creating a disservice to many by lying about their dogs to just bring them along. Don't even get me started or I'll have to get out my soapbox.

Now that I have listened to this audiobook, I'm curious to know more about Molly Burke and will be heading over to YouTube to peruse her channel a bit.

Molly helped me as I started my sight loss journey

Love this book by Molly Burke . September 2016 I was told I was going blind and the cause diagnosed

About four months later I found Molly’s YouTube channel and started to think maybe I could learn to live my life to the full again.

This 50 something learned a lot from the young twenty something on her YouTube channel

This book has helped remind me how far I’ve come and reminded me never to give up

Thank you Molly for sharing your experience

Fantastic from a fellow ‘disabled’ woman

I am going deaf in both ears. I’m about 99.999% deaf in one and I am going deaf in my right one now, knowing that she is able to do everything; as a blind woman, I know I can do the same as a deaf woman. Fully deaf one day. She is amazing. Check out her YouTube!!

Too short

I like Molly and love her YouTube channel. But the book was too short. There was so much going on in the book and none of it was expanded upon. This felt like a outline for the real story more than the story it self. If she had gone into more detail and crafted a narrative through out the book it would have been a wonderful read of maybe 300 to 400 pages.

Don't get me wrong. What little there was was wonderful but in the end it was all too surface level stuff that she has talked about before. I find it kind of strange that the book turned out the way it did seeing how avid of a reader she herself is. You would think she know what a great book should include.
