Molly Burke
Close your eyes and get ready to see the world in a new and more positive way. As a child in Toronto, Molly Burke was diagnosed with retinitis pigmentosa and became completely sightless as a teenager. Now an award-winning YouTube star and global influencer, Molly shares what it’s like to be a purple-haired, pink-obsessed fashion and makeup lover in a seeing world. She speaks with authenticity and candor about how she tackles the preconceived notions we have around blindness; Molly has made it her mission to make us see her - and ourselves- in a wholly empowering way. Learn about her struggles with bullying and anxiety, her quest for inclusivity, how she built a successful influencer business (with more than 1.8 million followers), and what it’s really like to travel with the true star of this audio, her service dog, Gallop.

Go Behind the Scenes with Molly Burke of It's Not What It Looks Like
It’s not what you might think, either
Molly Burke is a blind YouTuber. Those words alone might be enough to have you 🤔, but challenging widely held assumptions is the driving principle behind the videos she makes for her 1.8 million subscribers—and is the powerful undercurrent of her new Audible Original, It’s Not What It Looks Like. What’s most striking about Burke is not that she’s blind, but how in so many ways she sounds just like any other early-20s internet phenom: obsessed with the color pink and makeup tutorials, and starstruck in the presence of those more famous than her. Her subtly raspy voice, which always seems to have a smile at its root, brings added authenticity to this compelling memoir from an upbeat motivational speaker whose work to normalize disabilities is so ever-present it’s almost imperceptible (much like her blindness).

- Youtube career trajectory 2/5 stars: this is like hearing a film star talk about their rise to fame over decades, honing their craft, the trials and tribulations, the ups and downs... only replace all of that with how many followers your youtube channel has.
- Motivational speaking: 3/5 stars: your reaction to this area will depend on how you feel about positive but fairly generic motivational speaking and affirmations.
- Personal memoir: 5/5 stars. This was the most interesting parts and if you get the audiobook it should be for this. Her life story and experiences are interesting and well-told -- both the parts specific to be being blind and the parts which have nothing to do with blindness. I'd love to have heard more about her as a person.

She is positive and upbeat, open and honest about her journey addressing ALL disabilities and shows a positive path through the darkness ( be it blindness, mental illness, bullying).
She and her book is a true inspiration for ALL people, not because she is blind, but because she refuses to be held back by anything!
As a person who became legally blind in middle age rather than as a child, i am in awe of how she has succeeded IN SPITE of the challenges thrown at her.
i was amazed at how she so aptly explained situations that affect low vision and blind people that I have tried to convey to my family and friends, and they still dont get it.
i recommend this book for everyone with or without disabilities! its all about picking yourself up every time you fall, refusing to fail and give in and give up and not losing yourself in a ocean of pity and feeling sorry for yourself.
This book is a great educator for sighted people on co exisisting with non sighted/ low vision people and how simple awareness can make their lives so much easier and not difficult. The one example she didnt mention was when a person tells you they are legally blind and asks a question about the menu or menu board behind them, pointing to the menu, or board and saying, the choices are on the menu is NOT helpful! lol...
Read this book! Its awesome!
Should be a MUST read for all human beings!
