In this provocative and eye-opening classic of investigative journalism, the #1 New York Times bestselling author and “America’s best true-crime writer” (Kirkus Reviews), Ann Rule, explores the nearly twenty-year long search for America’s most prolific and horrifying serial killer.

In 1982, the body of Wendy Coffield is discovered floating near the sandy shore of Washington’s Green River. Authorities have no idea that this tragic and violent death is only the beginning of a string of murders that will rock and terrify the Seattle area for two decades.

With her signature riveting prose and in-depth research, Ann Rule takes us behind the scenes of the search for the Green River Killer, a terrifying specter who ritualistically killed young women and eluded authorities for years. From seeking the help of incarcerated serial killer Ted Bundy to Ann Rule’s horrifying realization that the killer she was writing about had attended her book signings, Green River, Running Red is the suspenseful and unforgettable “definitive narrative of the brutal and senseless crimes that haunted the Seattle area for decades” (Publishers Weekly).

Anne Rule tells the stories of several of the young women who were removed from this world by the Green river monster before they had a chance to better their circumstances. Young people believe they're invincible and prositutes are no different. Gary Ridgeway deprived them of the opportunity to grow up and find other ways to make a living. I would like to say that I hope he can/does read the book, but I'm not sure it would matter at all. How could it matter to someone with no soul?

As a side, I'll look for more books narrated by Barbara Caruso.Great vocal pitch and intonation that doesn't need exaggeration to elicit our sympathy.

Excellent story and narration

The beginning of this book was very dry.. I found myself almost stopping and returning it several times. There was hours of back story which were not about the GRK's life. I guess I was expecting something more like The Stranger Beside Me. I was disappointed throughout the whole book.

I didn't love it

I liked this book every bit as much as The Stranger Beside me. Ann Rule really gives you a since of being part of the story.

Great book!

One of my favorite true crime books written by Ann Rule books on the Green River case.

Awesome True Crime Book

GRK story told through the victims.

It's always nice to read a long well researched true crime that revolves around the victims lives, movements, and disappearances instead of one focus on the killers movements.

I always find the girls' lives more fascinating and telling of the killers psyche than brutal descriptions of their violation.

If you're into that and books like Lost Girls by Robert Kolker you'll like this one

All About the Girls

I like her books because they are true crime.. however they are drawn out to get every detail so sometimes I get a little bored but still continue to read

good

A thorough account of a very sad and horrifying page in history. Ms. Rule gave compassion and honor to those who suffered (victims, families, authorities) during and after a killer's self absorbed rampage.

Very intriguing

First off the story and history are incredibly captivating for a true crime book listener. Barbara Caruso’s delivery is about the best I have heard. I hung on every word both for content and execution. Highly recommended.

Simply terrifying

very interesting read. it was a little to detailed at points and i struggled to get passes a few chapters. the narrator seemed to have a hard time reading by her heavy breathing at parts. all in all a good book.
