The thing that stood out the most about this amazing book was Mary’s personal connection not only to the story, but the individuals in the story. I’m so grateful that she did the narration as the emotion that she felt was obvious as she expressed the words which denoted the feelings she had personally experienced. I found the book to be very personal very intimate and very lovely. I had met Mary at a lunch table and a yoga retreat hosted by A.G. and Indra Mohan and had a brief conversation with her and another participant in the program, but I really knew nothing about Mary. After experiencing this Book I felt like I knew Mary deeply and I found that very attractive. I’ve never experienced a book that had the personal impact that Mary’s writing did. It also helped me to Garner a new perspective on the impact of colonial powers on indigenous people, whether it’s in Australia, India, or the United States. Seeing the depth of commitment that Mary had to preserving the indigenous languages, traditions and way of life while teaching English as an additional language was profoundly impactful. I highly recommend that anybody read this book if you’re like me, it may expand your consciousness.

An amazing book by an amazing soul!
