Probing into a trial that deliberated on Betty's promiscuity, her alcoholism, and her adulterous affair with a black man rather than any physical evidence against her, critically acclaimed journalist Jim Schutze reveals how sex, politics, and corruption could possibly have led to a scandalous miscarriage of justice that kept the real killer from facing full penalty for his cold-blooded deed. A fascinating true crime account, By Two and Two is a must-listen investigation into the harrowing details of a sensational murder case.

Story
On January 21, 1958, nineteen-year-old Charles Starkweather changed the course of crime in the United States when he murdered the parents and sister of his fourteen-year-old girlfriend (and possible accomplice), Caril Ann Fugate, in a house on the edge of Lincoln, Nebraska. They then drove to the nearby town of Bennet, where a farmer was robbed and killed. When Starkweather’s car broke down, the teenagers who stopped to help were murdered and jammed into a storm cellar. By the time the dust settled, ten innocent people were dead and the city of Lincoln was in a state of terror.

Story
In Good Hands has enough twists and turns to make you wonder what to believe. Is this a tale about SIDS, a medical mystery? Or is it about murder? And if murder, what could be the motive? In the town of Irmo, where the Cutros had plenty of support, parents continued to drop off their children. They couldn’t fathom that these people might be dangerous. The Cutros had three children of their own.

The depraved patriarch dominated his ragged brood of twelve children mentally, physically, and sexually, and enforced every cruelty imaginable, from vicious beatings to raping his daughters and fathering their children. Finally, in 1992, Sexton's eighteen-year-old daughter Machelle, seeking refuge in a women's shelter, revealed the shocking, sordid details of her father's abuse to authorities. As the law attempted to catch up to Eddie Lee Sexton, he moved his family to a mobile home in western Florida.

They grew up knowing they had secrets to keep. They did not talk about their mom's extended absences, or why their dad put Scotch tape on the backdoor frame. To cover up the chaos, they kept their clothes neat and got good grades. But when they were teenagers, an arson fire destroyed their home and killed their parents. Rumors were thick that summer that smart, angry, 14-year-old Lisa set the blaze. Then, adult powers they did not understand squelched the investigation. Publisher's summary
In October 1997, the town of Ringgold, Georgia, was shaken by reports of a murder in its midst. A dead woman was found in Alvin Ridley's house—and even more shockingly, she was the wife no one knew he had.
McCracken Poston had been a state representative before he lost his bid for US Congress and returned to his law career. Alvin Ridley was a local character who once sold and serviced Zenith televisions. Though reclusive and an outsider, the "Zenith Man," as Poston knew him, hardly seemed capable of murder.
Alvin was a difficult client, storing evidence in a cockroach-infested suitcase, unwilling to reveal key facts to his defender. Calling on medical experts, testimony from Alvin himself, and a wealth of surprising evidence gleaned from Alvin's house, Poston presented a groundbreaking defense that allowed Alvin to return to his peculiar lifestyle, a free man.
Years after his trial, Alvin was diagnosed with autism spectrum disorder, a revelation that sheds light on much of his lifelong personal battle. Part true crime, part courtroom drama, Zenith Man is also the moving story of an unexpected friendship between two very different men that changed—and perhaps saved—the lives of both.

Story
In the summer of 1985, a brilliant young British DNA scientist Helena Greenwood is found murdered in her front garden in a quiet suburb in California. The police believe they know the killer’s identity but there’s no evidence against him, and the only thing linking him to the crime is the fact he’d been charged with sexually assaulting Helena just a few months previously.

Story
For his victims, for their families and for the investigators tasked with finding him, the senselessness and brutality of the Golden State Killer's acts were matched only by the powerlessness they felt at failing to uncover his identity. Then, on April 24, 2018, authorities arrested 72-year-old Joseph James DeAngelo at his home in Citrus Heights, Calif., based on DNA evidence linked to the crimes. Amazingly, it seemed, evil finally had a name. Please note: This work contains descriptions of violent crime and sexual assault and may not be suitable for all listeners.

Story
Best-selling author Bryan Burrough recently made a shocking discovery: The small town of Temple, Texas, where he had grown up, had harbored a dark secret. One of his high school classmates, Danny Corwin, was a vicious serial killer. In this chilling tale, Burrough raises important questions of whether serial killers can be recognized before they kill or rehabilitated after they do. It is also a story of Texas politics and power that led the good citizens of the town of Temple to enable a demon who was their worst nightmare.

Every life has trials. I just never thought mine would lead me to be the victim of an actual trial—a murder trial. Almost two years after that gun sounded, there we were hearing every detail of how he died over, and over, and over again. I had waited so long for the trial to be the pinnacle of my healing. I just knew deep down it would be the moment of peace I had longed for—but as that judge stood to announce the verdict, the emotions that followed were not any I could have ever planned. Truth is . . . nobody ever plans to be a victim.

Inspiring, funny & unbelievable!
This book opens your eyes to make you observe the world around you much better than you've ever done before! Positively inspiring, making you audit the way you look at every person you ever encounter. I was surprised having heard this story before at just how much that reading it makes you want to be the third friend in this relationship of lawyer & client.
Highly recommended for true crime enthusiasts as well as this book literally puts you inside the courtroom, as you just hope and pray for everything to be ok!
Laughed and cried, as well as just about every emotion one could have..

SUCKED IN!!!!
Ok listen I don't read. I can say I've only read one book that I recall the past 10+ years. I even cheated a bit on this one and listened to a man read it to me on the Audible App. Zenith Man: Death, Love, and Redemption in a Georgia Courtroom Book by McCracken Poston Jr. I've heard about Mr. McCracken Poston over the years, have seen recent posts about said book on FB, and well most of you know we live close enough to Ringgold to know locations and names in the book. I must say it is a MUST READ/LISTEN TO! I giggled, laughed out loud, smirked, teared up, and even at some points had tears come out of my eyes. Great job Mr. Poston and @Alvin Ridley(tagged purposely like he has a FB ha, ha, ha NOT), I'm so happy for you although this took place many years ago and God Speed! As someone who loves the elderly, disabled, or anyone with a "difference" (for lack of better words). My career the past 20+ years in caregiving has taught me to love these people with a HUGE heart. Alvin Ridley now has such a special place in my heart.
P.S. Mr. Poston if you ever read this I would LOVE to join you and Mr. Ridley for lunch any day of the week!
