Publisher's summary

Private Matthew Petticrew arrives in France as part of the American Expeditionary Forces, an arrival that a war-weary France desperately hopes will help to end the turmoil. Having faced unthinkable things on the front, he is captivated by the sound of a lullaby, sung by a voice so pure he knows he must have imagined it. But rumors sweep through the trenches like wildfire, dubbing the voice "The Angel of Argonne", a mysterious presence who leaves behind wreaths on unmarked graves and footprints in the war-pocked soil.

Raised wild in the depths of the Forest of Argonne, France, Mireilles finds her world rocked when war comes crashing into the idyllic home she has always known, taking much from her. When Matthew discovers Mireilles, three things are clear: She is alone in the world, she cannot stay, and he and his two unlikely companions might be the only ones who can get her to safety.

Superlative Performance of a Stunning Book

Having read this beautiful book through, I was not ready to let the story go. And so I turned to Audible.

I could not believe how the performances of these talented actors enhanced the story! Bravo! Each actor really knew his or her character, and portrayed the rich and nuanced writing with fidelity. I will listen again.

WOW!! WOW!! WOW!!!
I cant believe I took this long to read this book. Do yourself a favor and read the book...it's like being suspended somewhere other worldly. Amanda is a musician. Every sentence so lyrical and the song that is this book is ...wow!!

voices outstanding, writing was beautiful

This was one of the best audible books I have ever listened to. The voices were amazing! they were done perfectly for each character. I especially liked Jasper Truitt.

As far as the story itself, I find that Amanda Dykes writes with the beauty of a poet. Not only that , but there is a depth to each character that grows as the story progresses. Even the frivolous ones become people of character.

This is not a plot driven book, but rather one of beauty and depth. I have read her other 2 books and loved them as well, but this one was her best.

Breathtaking

I would give more than 5 stars if I could! 1 have read many, many books, but I'm not sure I've ever read one that portrays its characters so deeply, so intimately. Yours is the Night is more than just a compelling story (though it is that!), I found myself completely captivated, hanging on every word, completely absorbed in the moment while at the same time marvelling over and over at the depth of the writing.

Though the setting and topics are heavy, the story gives only what is necessary to understand the gravity of what is happening, never more.

The narration absolutely does justice to the writing, as each narrator brings their character to live with depth and rawness that even had me tearing up on occasion (not typical for me!)
I can't recommend this book highly enough.

Captivating! Amazing depth-story, writing, character, performance!

This book was my first Amanda Dykes experience and it was absolutely brilliant! The writing is superb, the story and characters draw you in, and the performance, though, slightly less than spectacular, had you right there in the trenches, walking through the Argonne, stumbling trough the ruins, seeing it all unfold right before your very own eyes… The only reason I took 1 star away was that Mira should have been portrayed with a French accent throughout the entire reading rather than a handful of times.

Beauty out of brokenness

Excellent multi character development. Though there were several characters with diverse backgrounds, their stories were easy to follow and I enjoyed each one as they unfolded.

I had to read a book about WW1 for my yearly reading challenge. So glad I picked this one! The story is woven together beautifully.

I enjoyed this story so much, I only found it a tiny bit far fetched but I don’t even care, the characters were to enjoyable.
