"You're Doing Great! is your no-nonsense go-to collection of essays to get you through the increasing noise and chatter of self-doubt and confusion in the new millennium. Tom Papa is a funny, empathetic guide and your new best friend." (Patton Oswalt)

"Read it. Listen to it. Whatever, do what you want. According to Tom you're doing great." (Whitney Cummings)

Comedian and Live from Here head writer Tom Papa, author of Your Dad Stole My Rake, tackles the modern condition in a heartwarming group of short essays.

Tom Papa is a little worried about you. You seem stressed, overworked, and, frankly, a little mixed up.

Everyone is fighting an overwhelming feeling that things are getting worse, that we should be doing more, that we're not good enough. Well, life isn't perfect. There have always been problems, and there always will be. You can fight for the things you believe in, you can work really, really hard, but you shouldn't lose track of the fact that while you're doing all that, life is flying by at lightning-fast speed.

If you actually take a breath and look around, you'll realize you're actually doing great. Here's the thing: We live in an amazing time filled with airplanes, scooters, and peanut butter cups. We have air conditioning, blenders, and martini shakers. It's time to refocus, enjoy it all, and stop waiting for something better!

Relax with comedian and Live from Here writer and performer Tom Papa as he explores his favorite subjects in 75 essays, including:

  • "You Don't Have to Live Your Best Life"
  • "Don't Open the Mail"
  • "I'm So Baked"
  • "I Love Your Love Handles"
  • "Don't Go Tubing"
  • "Shut Up and Eat"

Recalibrate, turn off your device, and open your eyes to a better reality: You're doing great!

A good “book”?

This is a perfect audiobook for driving/ working.
Not too deep or thought provoking, just encouraging and funny. Definitely recommend for the anxious/ busy brain.

It's just OK...

If you watched his most recent Netflix show with the same title, it's the same as this but longer and not as funny.

Laughing While Walking Makes the Neighbors Think You're Crazy

I love to read and never thought I would enjoy listening to books. I was wrong. Listened on my walks and while doing chores around the house. I'm sure the neighbors are probably wondering what I was smiling or chuckling about. I think the fact that it was read by Tom Papa made it even better. I really appreciated the bright spot during COVID. I'm doing great!

Papa at his best!

Tom Papa is a gifted storyteller with the advantage of his NY perspective as a working class Italiano. Bellisimo!

Whether it's a crow of death, fear of homeownership or what it means to eat dinner with your family seated around the table, Tom takes you with him ...laughing and crying all the way.

It's hard not to love him. unless you were a member of the View audience in his early days of over imbibing and late arrivals.

Thanks Tom for affirming how hard Americans work. I have been waiting for that nugget of truth to surface internationally!

Ciao for now,

Tere Hart

So Entertaining!

Maybe it wasn't the best choice to listen to during my new fitness challenge. It was funny to hear Tom talking about staying inside and eating bread while I was power walking around the lake. I wonder what all the other joggers thought about the crazy woman laughing to herself. Great book!

Daily “Bread” for those of us in the trenches.

Tom Papa is the “Will Rogers” of our time. Sure, this book will make you laugh. However, in a post pandemic world where we have, to our detriment, allowed our social muscles to atrophy, Tom reminds us of why other people, places, and creatures are worth the effort to experience them.

There are plenty of issues that divide us, but these thoughtful, often hilarious, occasionally heartbreaking essays will remind you of the ties that bind us as human beings.

The brevity of the essays and wide variety of topics is perfect for those of us who struggle to sustain attention. This book is also perfect for those of us who work in education and need trigger pieces for discussions or writing assignments.

Relatability is the common thread among these essays, many beginning with the phrase “Have you ever?”. So, have you ever read a book that made you feel at peace with imperfections, have a healthier understanding of what truly matters, and made you appreciate that joy-in all its living, breathing, and edible forms-is as necessary as work?

I have. The book is “You’re Doing Great!” by Tom Papa.
