Best book on finances for the believer!

This is the best book on finances I have read/listened to! In my circle, Dave Ramsey is the go-to finance guy and because he uses many verses in Proverbs, his program is considered "biblical" and "Christian". My husband and I went through a Dave Ramsey class with our church several years ago and while he has good, savvy advice and tips, we felt it was missing some key Scriptural elements. Ramsey talks about the goal being to become rich and spiritualized it by saying we want to have more so we can give more. But as I looked around our class, I saw some families just struggling to make ends meet. Does the Bible teach that God wants us all to be rich? What about the passages about contentment and God providing for our NEEDS and how our hearts are must important? Ramsey focused only on the proverbs that talked about the benefits and reward of being rich, but he never addressed the warnings, which are mentioned just as much.

Enter Scott LaPierre's book. He includes all the tips and advice, but he spends more than half of the book getting to the real heart of the matter. He goes through numerous passages in the Bible that deal with money and our relationship with it. He covers stewardship, eternal rewards, our love of God vs. love of money, our attitude, giving, Who or what we are putting our trust in, and more. I really appreciated his retirement chapter in which he discussed where the concept came from and his challenge for us to retire into Christian service.  I finished this book feeling like I have a good grasp on the whole counsel of what God has said about finances and not like he has cherry-picked specific verses and ignored the rest.

I am a homeschool mom and I want to make this (and perhaps the accompanying workbook- I haven't looked at it yet), a requirement for my children once they reach high school!

I listened to the audiobook and so I was able to listen and learn while doing household duties. I also prefer audiobooks narrated by the actual author and so this was a complete win for me. I highly recommend this book and think it would be excellent for a class at church, personal use, and also for older homeschool students.

Wonderful book

I found this book very interesting. It was helpful to see where in the Bible the information came from and how Scott came to the conclusion he did.

Insightful

This is an insightful read for anyone looking to better their finances. I would have given it a higher rating had the audiobook narrator had a more enthusiastic voice.

Audio Style of a Different Financial Perspective

This book was easier to listen to than it was to read. I was able to use the workbook (as an ebook) as I was listening. To reiterate what I said in my review of the ebook, I enjoyed how Pastor Scott used Scripture to back everything he said about finances.

Comprehensive look at money through God's Word

If you're looking for a comprehensive look at God's view of money as seen in scripture, this is the book to get you there! Scott addresses many of the most common money-misconceptions and myths as well as the flat-out lies. Scott also has numerous practical examples of ideas to reduce spending and live within our means. I so enjoyed hearing the author read the book--this offers a kind of connection. Also, no one knows the author's intent and the direction he's going, better than the author himself--they're the best qualified to read their own work.
If you've ever wondered about some of the tougher-to-discern passages related to money, you'll likely be pleasantly surprised as Scott explains them and helps us to apply them.
I especially appreciated hearing about the examples of folks from WCC who did things out of the ordinary in order to remain debt-free in a debt-loving world. I was waiting for one infamous Scott Lapierre quote that I've shared numerous times over the years: "the world celebrates debt like it's a blessing and yet, thinks of children, clearly described in scripture by God as blessings, as curses." It's a topsy-turvy works out there! But God is faithful to guide us by His Word and Scott remains faithful to the Word in teaching us.
Also, I'm gonna have to stop saying "tithe" when offering our gifts.
Overall, it's a fantastic listen that I'm grateful to have been able to enjoy.
Highly recommend.
Thank you, Scott and family!!

Love how the author shows how each concept is stee

This is one of the best books I've read about God's teaching on finances.

I love how much Scripture the author included to show how every concept was taught in the Bible. Most of the ideas are very familiar to me, but the stories and suggestions included were both encouraging and helpful as our family works to live out these difficult concepts. There was one topic (I don't want to give a spoiler) where Scott's teaching was different from what I've usually understood, but I love the way he presented it and we're praying through God's direction for our family.

This is a book I highly recommend Christian read as we seek to please our Heavenly Father with the things he's given us stewardship over!

Christians Young & Old Should Read This!

This book is SO MUCH MORE than a book on finances! Scott leads the reader through living out biblical truths in your everyday life. I consider myself a pretty faithful Christian, but many of his points hit me right between the eyes! I really enjoyed the eye opening section on having so much "stuff" that you need to rent a storage space to store it all. (Chapter 11 Spending Problems Versus an Income Problem) This study (book & workbook) should be required reading for all new Christians - especially young married couples! This is a study that I will be repeating frequently. Scott is also the narrator, and he did a wonderful job in delivering the information. It was like getting advice from a trusted friend. I HIGHLY recommend you give this book a read - or listen!
