Kell Crawford lives alone with his mother, who has a bizarre fascination with light. When she is murdered by a mysterious stranger, Kell goes on the run to escape the murderer and find the father who abandoned him as a baby. Chasing his mother’s last cryptic message, Kell finds his way into an underground tomb, which transports him to a strange temple where skeletal priests worship the Light and think he is their Promised One.

But something has gone wrong. Some other being has possessed a portion of his soul. The priests fear and hate him, and a terrible darkness seeks to claim him — all while an ominous power is growing inside him. Now, Kell must learn to harness that power before he loses everything — even his soul.

This book is great. The topics discussed throughout the book are deep and thought provoking. It makes you view the world in a different way. I highly recommend this book!

The Promised One

First let me say the narrator did an excellent job. His characters really came to life.
The story was hard to follow at first. But hang in there. you'll get caught up into it and want to see what happens. I like how it ended. No cliffhanger, TY, but left it open for future releases.

too slow for my liking I listened to over half the book and nothing really happened yet to hold my interest.

Intellectual fantasy with engaging magic system

I've never seen a magic system quite like this one. It was deep and philosophical. But the story was still great and very satisfying. What is Kell going to do next?

A slow start, good ending

This book starts slow, but has a good ending. After getting to the end I’ve decided to look at book 2
