Publisher's Summary

Nasir Valentine has one thing on his mind: winning a championship title in his first year as head coach of the boys basketball team.

But when his team captain’s father is murdered just before the start of the season, he quickly learns coaching high school basketball in the inner city is a lot more than just drawing numbers and arrows on a dry erase board.

Struck by the tragedy of her father’s murder, Carmen Wellington is faced with the tough decision of keeping her life away from home or coming back to her hometown to support her little brother through his senior year of high school. It’s a decision that will change her life in more ways than one, especially with her brother’s handsome basketball coach in the picture.

Carmen is supposed to be focused on what’s best for her and her family. Nasir is supposed to be focused on what’s best for him and his team. But with those two worlds colliding and an undeniable attraction developing because of it, the two can only hope for more wins than losses....

Wins & Losses For The Win!!!

I was not expecting Wins & Losses to be so good! The drama wasn't overstated or understated. It had just the right amount to keep the storyline interesting. I didn't just fall in love with Carmen and Nassir. Jordy stole a little bit of my heart too. The dynamics of his and Carmen's relationship was the highlight of the book for me. I love how the death of their father brought them closer together. Carmen and Nasir were perfect for each other. Given the drama she went through with her trifling azz fiancé and so called bestie, the progression of their relationship still managed to be natural and organic. The author didn't rush their union. She let it progress accordingly. Speaking of Will and Maxine, I do believe they have tied for the number one spot as the worst people ever. I don't think I've ever wanted to whoop a character's azz as much as I wanted to whoop Maxine. That backstabbin' heffa deserved that azz whoopin' Carmen gave her. If a wolf in sheep's clothing was a person, it would definitely be Maxine. But that's okay because, in the end, she got hers. Or, should I say, she didn't get hers. Meaning, she did all that scheming just to end up pregnant and alone. God don't like ugly. Nasir's parent were a hoot. Tina and Martin are the parents we all deserve. They were hilarious! Alexandra Warren really hit it out of the box with Wins & Losses. The characters were easy to connect with and you found yourself rooting for everyone. The author takes us on a rollercoaster of emotions from grief and loss to passion and betrayal! This book was a winner!

Not For Me

*Spoiler* Chance Smolders is really Cary Hite, who I am not a fan of at all so admittedly, as soon as I heard his voice in chapter 2, I was already not a fan of this book. But.. since I used a credit for this expensive book I really did try to hang in there and see it all the way through. Also, because Wesleigh is the female narrator, I had hoped she would just narrate most of it. Sadly, she did not so I could not. I made it to chapter 13 and realized the way this story is written makes me not care anything about these characters or this story. A few things happened that would likely hold my attention if maybe another male narrator read it, or if the dialog was different... I cannot pinpointed exactly why it didn't resonate with me, but it just didn't. Hate to do it, but I am requesting my credit back.

Enjoyed...

I enjoyed the audiobook for the most part. I read the book and looked forward to hearing it. Wesleigh Siobhan was excellent as always. The male lead is not my favorite with whatever name he uses. Overall it was a good listen.

Good real life story

This was a good story; portrayed relatable events that can and do occur. The struggles related to unpleasant life situations. Narrators did a good job with characters.

awesomeness

Emotional. Sweet but not sappy. Characters that feel real and are endearing to the soul. The reason a good love story will never get old.

🙌🏾✨

Shout-out to these two for bringing these characters to life! This was already one of my favorite books from Alex, but they took it to another level. I don't even like audiobooks, but hearing a snippet, I couldn't not partake. Glad I did.
