When Laura McKowen was two years sober, she received an email from a woman whose sister was struggling with alcohol addiction. Laura had barely climbed out from the dark place the woman's sister was in, but she made a list of things that she felt would’ve been the most important to hear when she was in the deep end of her own battle. In Push Off from Here, Laura addresses the correlation between trauma and addiction, the importance of radical honesty, letting go of the illusion of control, the value of community, and a reminder that healing is a continual process.

Publisher's Summary
The most important question you’ll ever ask yourself.
In Why Bother?, personal growth expert Jennifer Louden challenges you to open your mind, heart, and life by following where the question leads. Through reflection and stories from others, Louden demonstrates how to bother when it feels impossible or like too much work, whether after professional defeats, heartbreak, illness, or life-changing loss.
She shows why you must prioritize what’s calling you at any time of your life, especially when you’ve sidelined your dreams to raise kids, pay the rent, or take care of aging parents. And crucially, she shows you how tapping into your deepest desires can give you the energy to move forward - even when the world seems in such dire straits.
It’s time to reclaim the dignity and beauty of your desires. It’s time to get your bother on.

Jennifer is truly a gift to the world.
I could not leave and not let you know Jennifer how much you touched my mind but especially my heart. I felt every thing you talked about. I don't even know how many times I have told myself why bother. Well now when I say that to myself I'll get curious and figure out why. You have touched me in a way that I will take action so I can have every wonderful dream I have held only in my head with the ongoing follow up of why bother. You are not only a gift to me but to the world. Oprah should take this book and see who you really are!!! I hope to see and meet you at a retreat soon. May God bless you. Lora Terry

Coming Back to Life
Jennifer Louden adds this work to a long body of texts built to support women folks especially, but anyone willing to be exercised by Feminine Wisdom, with re-orienting our thoughts around a foundation of “bother,” which I interpreted as a way of materializing an energy of caring, into the kind of trekking poles favored by active walkers who could offload some of the balance function to equipment, and enjoy a longer journey in the process. It’s worth having a hard copy and an Audible version read by the author, because the texts hits different across each medium. I recommend Why Bother for anyone who wants to do something differently with their life force energy.

Not your usual self help book!!! Much better!!!
I did not want to read another try harder/ be more organised/ think positive self help book. And thank goodness this book was not one of those! I have read much of Jen Louden’s work
over the years and this is a fabulous collation of her wisdom about living an engaged, human scaled life. Her acknowledgment of the different ways we experience situations is so helpful. Her encouragement to use the “Why Bother feelings, our procrastination, our anxiety as something to accept and work with is life changing. It is a terrific book and I highly recommend it!

Story
Susie Moore knows that all too often stress is self-created and bogs us down, and she knows that we can just as easily create peace and power. Susie doesn’t deny the reality of suffering but instead shows how to pivot toward a life-changing way of processing pain, grief, loss, and anxiety. Her poignant stories and wise and witty words deliver nuggets of real-life wisdom to help you defuse reactive triggers and recast failures into successes with simple-yet-powerful changes.

Story
When Laura McKowen was two years sober, she received an email from a woman whose sister was struggling with alcohol addiction. Laura had barely climbed out from the dark place the woman's sister was in, but she made a list of things that she felt would’ve been the most important to hear when she was in the deep end of her own battle. In Push Off from Here, Laura addresses the correlation between trauma and addiction, the importance of radical honesty, letting go of the illusion of control, the value of community, and a reminder that healing is a continual process.

"No" is sometimes the hardest word to say. It's also the most necessary. How often have you wished you could summon the power to turn them down? This program will help you take back your power by showing that a well-placed "No" can not only save you time and trouble, it can save your life.
