Publisher's Summary

The long-awaited sequel to My Sweet Audrina, one of V. C. Andrews' strangest, most beloved books - and now a Lifetime movie!

Whitefern swallowed Audrina's childhood - and now the sprawling Victorian mansion threatens her adult life, too….

Audrina remembers a better time, when her husband, Arden, was a young man with a heart filled with devotion for her. He didn't used to be this ambitious, this expansive...this cruel. But then, the death of Aurdina's father changed a great many things.

When the reading of her father's will reveals that Audrina herself will control 51 percent of the family brokerage, the halls of Whitefern again don't feel safe. Arden's protestations become frantic, nearly violent. And while Audrina didn't anticipate running the family business, she's curious to do so. And she can't help but wonder what had made her father change his will at the last minute. What did he know about Arden that she didn't?

Trapped in the middle of it all: her fragile, simple sister - the beautiful, trusting Sylvia. Audrina promised her father she'd watch over the young woman. But after years of relative quiet, the dark days of Whitefern may have returned....

Satisfying Sequel

I went into this sequel not expecting much, but it turned out to be a good read. Andrews’ has always been pretty great if you’re looking squidgy subject matter and twisted family relationships and Whitefern doesn’t disappoint. While the twists in the story are pretty predictable, it didn’t take away from the my enjoyment of the story.

I’m not sure how to address this without giving too much away, but as the description calls Arden into question it should be okay to point out... I have heard from others they thought Arden was a bit out of character. I can understand the criticism. He’s nothing like the young Arden who was a pretty great son. Instead, he’s a more concentrated version of who he showed himself to be at the climax of My Sweet Audrina. To me his character’s flaws developed like a tooth with some decay that, with time and no dentistry, rots through.

so hard to finish

I just listened to the first one right before this. As other reviews have pointed out there are inconsistencies which is sad because there is only one book before this one. Also I disliked the main characters. Audrina acts like her past hasn't helped her to grow up at all and it was painful to listen to an entire book basically where she acted like a doormat and just kept forgiving Arden who was a complete whatever expletive you would like to say. Guessed the ending way before. Resolution was too short and didn't nearly make up for the torture of the rest of the book. Only recommend if you like listening to a character who still acts like a diminutive 12 year old as an adult and who is blind to everything around her.

I hope the movie is better

The narrator wasn't very good at the male voices and made Audrina sound stupid and naive. I'm hoping if both books are put into a movie the characters will be better. She was a perfect voice for Sylvia though. The character of Audrina needs to be more mature and not so kid like in second book.

Disappointing

Well, I had loved the first book when I was a young girl—and this book, was so very disappointing. It was so predictable. I guessed the whole plot. I guessed the ending, too. What a waste of 8-10 hours. I don’t want to give away the book—but if you think you might have guessed what would happen in this book-then guess, what, you did. No more VC Andrews books for me. Though I still loved The Heaven Series. We’ll see…

it ended with a smile on my face and in my heart

this was not as strange as the first one but honestly I think it was better. I was heart breaking but at the same time the ending gave me a sense of relief for the characters and I feel like it ended perfectly. I have closure. so great.
