Presidents, premieres, prime ministers, entire governments disappeared instantly, like a fragile house of cards in a hurricane. Some hid deep underground or holed up in fortified strongholds, but most were swallowed up by the dead, never to be heard from again.

Created in a biosafety level 4 lab in Wuhan, China, a bioweapon meant to sicken and quickly kill an enemy population—leaving intact infrastructure, resources, and vast swaths of fertile farmland—instead causes the infected to die and return as mindless, flesh-eating zombies.

When the bioweapon escapes the BSL-4 lab and all efforts to contain its rapid spread within Hubei province fail, the Chinese Communist Party leadership dispatch agents to the United States with one mission: to level the playing field by seeding an unsuspecting American population with what will eventually be known worldwide as the Omega virus.

That last Saturday in July 2011 was the end of “normal” for every survivor of the catastrophe. Now, after scientists’ many failed attempts to develop an answer to Omega, a human intelligence asset (HUMINT) long thought dead reaches out from within the dying communist country.

Armed with information on the whereabouts of detailed notes transcribed during Omega’s gain-of-function trials, Cade and his Pale Riders Team are tasked with retrieving the missing data that may lead to the perfection of an antiserum that could be humanity’s salvation.

While Cade is away, his daughter, Raven, begins her journey down the difficult path to becoming the youngest member of an army whose goal is to rid New America of the zombie scourge.

Shawn Chesser Does it Again

Action, zombies, live breathers, military helos, friends, family, a dog, and killer kids come together in several stories. Sadly, one of the crew dies. My hope is that Cade will be going back to a certain country to save a Rabbit & get more intelligent. I can't wait for the next book!

The narrator does a great job with the voices and emotions.

Great book can’t wait for the next one i really enjoyed listening to how the cast is making progress and how Raven is following in her dad’s footsteps i really hope to hear what they do with the “eye for an eye” situation
