Fate makes no exceptions.
When stepping into a town full of werewolves like me for the first time in my life, I expected to be welcomed - or at least tolerated.
Instead, I got hit in the face with a door.
And then, found my dad's face on a dartboard in their diner.
The people there need my help, but I can't help them unless I tell them who I am. And telling them who I am just might get me killed.
The one connection I find comes in the form of a gorgeous, inked-up chemist who's the only person in town that doesn't hate me. He could be exactly what I need in more ways that one - and I'm pretty sure he's my fated mate.
Every day I'm there seems to increase my odds of dying as the townies try to force me out, but I refuse to back down.
I'll save them...even if they kill me for doing it.
Note: This new-adult paranormal romance is recommended for ages 17+ due to language and sexual content.

This story is not the end. There is more to come in the next installment. I think we’re off to a good start.

(Something I like to know early- this book is not spicy. We get some hot thoughts and a very well done mini-moment, and this feels very true to the slow relationship build for our characters. I’m hoping we get more spice as the series continues!)
Lola’s writing is so well done, and you really feel for Kass when she’s trying to fit into town and continually being shut out and rejected. As hard as this is to get through, because it is very well written and makes you feel beaten down and rejected right along with Kass, the pace moves along nicely and there are really sweet moments as Kass breaks down the shell of Keaton’s hard exterior. The humor and friendship that grows between them feels so genuine and sweet! I adore them. It’s so cute how she thinks of him in early days, “clever with a nice [behind]”. Ahem, this girl’s dream guy.
Kass is so relatable, kind, and determined. She is a woman on a mission, and this gal will not back down from helping what she thinks of as her people, no matter how unwelcomed she is. I also adore that she says “if the question is food, the answer is always yes!” Love a lady with an appetite.
A unique aspect to Lola’s writing that I so deeply appreciate is that she does not build up fake angst around characters lying or misleading each other. When our leading lady has questions about her friends’ and family’s intentions or loyalties, she asks! There aren’t assumptions made, and if there are, they’re quickly resolved. The drive to the story and pacing are the wild twists and turns from outside forces, not reader-anxiety over “when is she going to ask him / tell him / reveal this secret”! Its such a relief and a real show of a good writer.
On the technical side of this review, I found the reader to have a lovely voice but a very slow manner of speaking. I tried listening at a faster pace and ended up finding a happy middle ground at 1.1X speed. Too much faster threw off the cadence, but regular speed was just slow enough that I wanted to reach for a digital copy to read at my own pace. However, the unique voices and fun intonations really drew me in and made this book so enjoyable! I love audiobooks for series because the narrators create unique voices that help add so much dimension to the characters – I adore Addy’s voice, for example! And the way the reader adds the growl to the voices when the wolfy sides come out, and how cringy I felt when our leading lady is hurt and her voice changes due to injury – so well done! I would say this was a great book to be portable and take on walks with an earbud in – but actually, I ended up finishing a walk and continuing to listen while sitting on the couch staring at a blank TV screen, so points for how enraptured I was in this storytelling!
I received a free copy of this audiobook from the author and am voluntarily leaving a review.

I really enjoyed meeting Kass and getting to know the lore of the wolf shifters and lycans in this story. I always enjoy interesting world building and characters who are more than just human.
Kass was lucky enough to be cured by her father before he was murdered, but she was raised not knowing the details or anything about her history or her parents’ home town. When she discovers her father’s journals, learns about the other people like her, but not quite like her, she does the usual new adult thing of running off to explore.
You see, her father has shared the cure in his journals, and she wants to learn more about the lycan folk and deliver the cure to them. Along the way she learns so much about the monsters these lycans are, how much hatred and distrust they have of outsiders, and how far they will go to get rid of who they don’t trust. She also finds out what really happened to her father.
We also get to meet Keaton, and I enjoyed the slow burn of their relationship. I appreciated the lack of instalove but also the way the undeniable pull between them was not to be ignored. As they discover who they are to each other, and why Keaton has a tattoo that looks just like Kass’s wolf, they begin to work together to try to help the people of his town.
I do hate the trope of hiding things from your child so they have to go out and find the truth themselves, putting themselves in danger. But it sure makes for a good story and great character building. The story ends in a lovely reunion after a horrible near-death, as is the expected path for paranormal creatures. I’m looking forward to the next installment to see if they accomplish making the cure, will the lycan who tried to harm her be forgiven, and what comes next.
I listened to this book and really enjoyed the audio narration. The pacing was great, the voices also well done. Each character had a distinct enough voice so we knew who was speaking. The main voice for the main character was pleasant and enjoyable. I listened to this in about 3 sittings, listening for hours at a time.
