Perriwinckle's Last Chance

Having listened to and enjoyed the previous series Eva wrote featuring Shadowkind, I was delighted to see that there is a new series featuring new characters as well as some familiar ones.

At the start of this book, we meet the sweet and delightful Periwinkle, also known as Peri, a shadowkind who never means to harm anyone but unwittingly does so, as she's unable to control her powers entirely. After one such episode, she finds herself caught by Jonah, a sorcerer and taken to a Monsters Reform School where shadowkind are hopefully taught to live undetected in the mortal realm.

Peri is struggling with her powerful but dangerous magic that runs through her veins and is happy to be given the chance to gain more control. Still, at the school, she manages to hurt shadowkind and is given one last chance to prove her control and usefulness in the Mortal Realm. Peri, along with Raze, a Basilik, Mirage, a Fox Shifter of sorts and Hail, a Winter Fae, have to work with Jonah the human sorcerer to determine just what is going on, and why some unusual Shadowkind are behaving oddly.

Will they be able to prove to the staff and, most importantly, Rolick, the founder of the school, that they are redeemable and escape the banishment that hangs over their heads?

Eva Chase has again cleverly woven a thrilling story featuring some intriguing Misfit Monsters, and I am eagerly awaiting the next instalment.

Excellent start

This is a great start to the series. It moves at a good pace and I really love how the relationships progress. It's intriguing and I feel right there with Peri and the guys trying to figure it all out. It's an intriguing story and I love the whole premise of it all. Narration really brought he characters to life I can not wait to see what happens next!

Fun read

I have been reading pretty dark books recently, this book has been a welcome change, fun read and the narrators are perfect.
Can’t wait for the next book in the series.

Eva Chase has completely won me over with this new story! From the very first chapter, I was pulled right into the world she created. Peri makes such a captivating heroine—she’s witty, fun, and has this spark that makes it impossible not to root for her. What I especially love is how her relationships with the guys evolve throughout the book. Nothing feels rushed; instead, you get to watch the dynamics shift in small but powerful ways, and it’s just as intriguing to see things from their perspectives as it is to follow Peri herself. The story moves at such a great pace that I found myself devouring chapter after chapter, always needing to know what would happen next. It’s one of those books that keeps you awake at night because you just have to read one more page. By the end, I was already desperate for the second book—I can’t wait to see where Eva takes these characters next, because if this first installment is any indication, the series is going to be absolutely addictive!

Good first book of the series. I like how Periwinkle always tries to make everyone happy but it doesn't go her way. I relate to that. I also like that she has her men and sounds like more relationships will be forming. I recommend this listen. The narrators did a good job too.

Great Story

Eva Chase just knows how to write why choose monster romance. Her books are comfort reads for me. I know what I’m going to get and the formula just works every time! Misfit Monsters is the first book in her newest series and once again I am hooked. These books exist in a familiar universe filled with the shadowkind.
This series is about Periwinkle and her journey to try to learn to control her powers. Peri is sent to a school where shadowkind learn how to coexist along side humans. Along the way Peri meets the men who will accompany her on a mission to find and contain other monsters that are terrorizing humans. I love Peri. She’s so sweet. Her energy is contagious. Most of her peers don’t understand her selfless nature, so she is ridiculed and ostracized when she first arrives. But it doesn’t take long for some students to see her for who she really is.
The way Vanessa Moyen narrates Peri is just perfect and I love listening to her. Aiden Snow comes in as the voice of the males in this series and he’s amazing as always. This is just the beginning of another great series, and I can’t wait to see what happens next.

This was fun

This was a fun read. Didn’t care for the MMCs except for the “professor”. But aside from that it was ok. New magic that is controlled by feelings.. that was diff and pretty cool. FMC was a complete sweetheart.. too sweet at times. And I do love the “Why Choose” in this… hell, I live that in any book. Will I continue the series…. Maybe.. not sure yet!
