Publisher's summary

Aspen Montgomery was nine years old when she befriended Camden Priest—a boy with dead eyes and dark urges. Since that day, they'd been inseparable. She hadn't expected to later develop a major crush on him. Or expected that the crush would fail to pass. Or ever thought that she'd grow to wish that she could one day claim him as her mate. It's never going to happen. She knows that. To him, she's a friend, nothing more. So it's time to make some changes to establish some better boundaries. Which would be a hell of a lot easier if he didn't fight her on it.

There is only one person in the world who Camden Priest gives a damn about—Aspen. She's his best friend, his anchor, his conscience, the very reason he's sane. There's only one secret he ever kept from her...he wants more than friendship. Knowing she doesn't feel the same, he put a chokehold on his need for her. But when some asshole claims to be Aspen's true mate and danger starts closing in on her, Camden's control becomes precarious and platonic lines are crossed. He knows what he should do—leave it at a one-night stand to protect their friendship. He's just not so sure he can.

Contains mature themes.

Good Escape

Good book and series.

Nice way to escape For a few hours. I LOVE the narrator!! she is a 5 star.

The book is entertaining. I prefer to have not So MUCH sex. It bores me so a SKIP it after awhile.

I enjoy all the characters in the pack. Though the "enemies" are portrayed so vile but one dimensional.

Nice summer read. But I didn't get to cry!!

Love these books! Can’t get enough

Since day one… I have been hooked. I love to get out of my boring life and feel like I’m in a story. And this writer does that for me. I love the narrator, keeps things consistent and easy to follow.

Not the greatest book out there, but not the worst

This book was hard to listen to getting started, the characters were pretty flat the voice of the narrator didnt help. after the first sex scene it started to pick up. Not super thrilled with the story line on a few levels nor do I have any interest in spin off books as none of the supporting character's drew me in or were not annoying. I at least got through the book If your looking for the next grate series this definitely wasn't it for me.

Childhood trauma looses love wins💕

They both had similar family trauma but found each other as kids and became a friends to lovers story. There is lots of great characters & dangerous intrigues throughout along with some very hot sex. Great narration.

Another good Shifter book

Suzanne Wright it’s one of my favorite shifter authors! I loved the earliest Pack series. This series is OK but not my favorites. I feel they spent too long carrying on about how they were “just friends” And we’re afraid to cross the line in fear of losing their friendship. I was at the point where I was thinking “this is a waste of precious story time!” I was also turned off by the constant “you belong to me, and what’s left of you after that you can have.” I know all of the shifter books this is a prominent theme, but I think it is often too extreme! I like Susan’s books a lot and feel that they offer call mom sexuality. But I’m finding lately that that attitude has been goning too far for my liking anyway. As you see I still rank her five stars in all categories.

Series best (so far)

You’d think these books would be getting old. Suzanne Wright has a a couple of formulas for her shifter novels, and this one follows along with many of the others. So you’d think it would be boring. Only…

ITS NOT!! HOLY HOTNESS ITS NOT!

I thought this one might be awkward: a bi H who seems more attracted to men then women and an h who’s always been in love with her best friend - Mr. H. But man, this is just done so very very well.

Suzanne doesn’t just skirt around the topic of the H’s sexuality: she actually discusses it at multiple points. It’s natural and it’s just so awesome to see an author embrace the discussion earnestly but without making a big deal about it (it isn’t a main plot point, it’s just there). The relationship between H and h is the most natural so far in all of her novels and feels intensely real. Not to mention the story line is intriguing, fun, and full of actual questions that take a while to answer.

I love how despite being over a dozen books into her overall larger shifter world, Suzanne can keep the books fresh. This one is still one of the best, with real love between the characters built off something beyond just initial physical attraction. There’s such history here, and it’s so captivating.

Overall, 5/5 in all the best ways. Plus the heat…oh man. The heat.

Loved it!

Camden and Aspen have been connected for decades..it made sense for them to be mates. Now the road to realization is filled with a sex tape, an assault, a blast from the past and a bombing. What’s a little danger between friends.

As always Suzanne weaves a tale full of angst, sex, intrigue and the occasional odd question..oh and don’t forget the zombies. We must get prepared.

This story of how Camden and Aspen came to find themselves mates is exciting and will keep you guessing until the end.

Great story

I'm really loving the deviation from damsel in distress and near death experiences! Aspen can hold her own and Camden isn't over bearing by making her stay behind. She can hold her own and he knows it. I'm also really happy that it isn't the jealous ex lover plotting their downfall or helping the true villain get to them. I loved how they were both afraid the other didn't see them the way they did and how surprised they bothnwere to find out how much they loved each other and wanted to try mating. Great story and Samantha Cook does a great job narrating.

i really loved it

Wishing there was more drama and that aspin wouldnt had made it so easy for him. I wish she would of questioned more his sexuality because i found it odd still that he dated mostly men all this time n only some women here and there and all in front of aspin and for that topic to just be overlooked like that was frustrating. I know aspin also dated others as well but I would of loved for aspin to had made it harder for him to be with her. Make him work for it since he blatantly flaunted others in front of her more than she ever did. Anyways thats just my opinion but i really enjoyed there interactions and relationship overall good book!🥳👏🏼
