Second Chance <3

My negative Nancy issues were with the narration. Does Hannah’s whiny drunk valley girl voice have to be the same even when she’s not drunk…OMG that would only be more annoying if you add a little nails on the chalkboard action in the background. [Growly Shivers] And…Why does one brother have a British accent but not the others?
As far as the story goes, it was a great way to show processing second chance love after pain & guilt of moving on when others you love can’t. All love stories count; even the short stories.

Letting go and finding love again

This is a book that I was equal parts excited and afraid to read and the reason for that are both simple and complicated. This is the follow-up story to the book Ten Hours but it can also be enjoyed very easily as a standalone. I have read Ten Hours and normally this would be where I would tell you how strongly I feel that you should read that book first. Instead I 'm going to hit you with a surprising twist and say that, I Do Not recommend that you read Ten Hours immediately before diving into this book. Either listen to this one first and then go back to enjoy Ten Hours or listen to Ten Hours and then wait a while before diving into this book because I feel that as good as this book is, it pales in comparison to its older sister book. Now do not get me wrong, Peyton and Abel share a beautiful and very emotional romance that is so worth reading. It delivers plenty of feels and is powerfully moving. However, the first time I read this book, I feel that my heart just simply did not have time to do what this book focuses on: grieving, letting go and being able to move past a loss. Ten Hours is a book about a love that is Everything!! Finley and Abel's love was nothing short of epic, legendary and is exactly the type of romance that they write songs and movies and ye, books about.. Theirs is a tale that it is on par with other unforgettable romances like Romeo and Juliet and Jack and Rose from Titanic. That is an awful lot to live up to and a brutally hard act to follow. In What Happens After, Abel may have had three years to grieve but it was released only three months after Ten Hours. So for me, everything was all still too fresh and raw in my mind to truly embrace Abel and Peyton and give them the love they deserved and yes, they did deserve it. Their story was beautiful, emotional and poignant in a totally different way but every bit as meaningful. In the end I recommend both books very highly and I really think whichever one you enjoy first will probably end up being your favorite. The narrator's performance was well done and I felt that the voice fit the book.

I loved it!

I cannot recommend this audiobook enough! I didn't listen to the first book, since the summary said you could listen out of order, and I never felt like I was missing something or out of the loop. I thought the narrator was a perfect fit and did an excellent job of bringing the characters to life.

Heartwrenching, but with Hope

This. Book. It pulled me apart. Okay, it actually started with the book TEN HOURS. These two books together will be with me for a long while. And since I read so much, that says A LOT. I haven't cried like I did with these two books. But I laughed and smiled too. My emotions were all over the place. Payton was perfect for Abel after Finley. I don't want to say goodbye to them yet. I wish Melissa Toppin had more books in the Kindle Unlimited program!! I'd definitely read more of her works. She writes well, and the storylines and characters stood out! Like I said, these books will stay with me.

Editing to add that I've now bought the books and listened to the audiobooks as well. Once again I'm in tears. I'll admit that I liked the narrator of TEN HOURS better, but by the end of this audio, I had gotten use to Rachel Leblang.

What Comes After by Melissa Toppen, the audiobook narrated by Rachel Leblanc, is book two in the series. For best reading experience I recommend to read the previous book, Ten Hours, first.
What Comes After is an emotional read and tells Abel and Peyton's story. The story picks up some time after Abel left Chicago and mourned his late wife, Finley. Now he's back in Chicago, but he changed, he's bitter and cynic and when he meets Peyton at his brother's wedding it's no fun for her.
The book is well written and I liked the story just fine.
