Ms.Flagg, great author, get another narrator

This is another book I bought because it was recommended by Audible. It was lovely to see Sookie come into herself and learn to define herself outside of her mother. That can be very difficult for today's women let alone for a 60 year old after a big shock. I am in my 50's and have been fed a select history of what women were like back in the war years. I believe that what Ms. Flagg has portrayed is more realistic than what we've been told. I really like the story through the years about how most towns were settled and how people were able to work together to overcome adversity. I'm sure there was pettiness and selfishness, but I think that for the most part people worked together. That being said, while the story was very strong, narration was not good sometimes. The inflections especially when reading the chapter headings were inconsistent. I realize that the author wanted to read her own book and I don't blame here, but maybe next time have a younger woman for the Midwest read the Fritzie parts. She was fine for Sookie. But some of the voices of the younger character may have been better served with another narrator. I listened to her previous books and loved it. I loved this book as well. I'm hoping to get another good recommendation.

Most annoyingly stupid character ever?

Sweet, somewhat interesting story. However, the character of Sookie has GOT to be one of the most annoying characters ever. Her stupid whining almost made me not finish listening to the book. Luckily, the character of Fritzie was likeable enough to make me finish.

Good story.

Very cute story, loved the Fritzi character. Skokie was so dramatic😄 at times. Good read. Great example for young ladies.

I loved the tone and feeling of this book. It was exactly what I was looking for -- warm, thoughtful, emotional and compelling. I've started listening to all of Flagg's books but this one is my favorite so far.

Love southern stories

I live in the south so I love to hear southern stories. Some of the characters reminded me of people I know . I did like listening to the story in a normal southern accent not the overdone ones you usually come across.

I think this is one of the most riveting books I have listened to. Ms. Flagg has nailed the characters, brought the story full circle, and slam dunked the OMG factor.

Even my husband enjoyed it

Several years ago, I got my husband hooked on listening to audiobooks in the car. He has always listened to mysteries, but he loved this one. I would find him sitting in the car just listening to it.

Wonderful way to learn some history of WWII

This was an interesting story of a little known part of the war effort during World War II. Wonderful narrator.

This was an amazing book!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I loved all of the characters, the storyline, and the simple southern charm. Parts of it were laugh out loud funny. I read the book and listened to it within a short period of time. I had a hard time putting the book down & that’s saying a lot since I don’t normally like to read. The narration was excellent. Fannie Flagg quickly became one of my favorite authors.
