What are the lives of America's richest families really like? Their nannies see it all . . .

When Stephanie Kiser moves to New York City after college to pursue a career in writing, she quickly learns that her entry-level salary won't cover the cost of living. But there is one in-demand job that pays enough to allow Stephanie to stay in the city: nannying for the 1%. Desperate to escape the poverty of her own childhood, Stephanie falls into a job that hijacks her life for the next seven years: a glorified personal assistant to toddlers on Manhattan's Upper East Side.

At first, nannying seems like the perfect solution—the high pay covers Stephanie's bills, and she's surprised by how attached she becomes to the kids she cares for, even as she gasps over Prada baby onesies and preschools that cost more than her college tuition. But the grueling twelve-hour days leave her little time to see her friends, date, or pursue any creative projects that might lead to a more prestigious career. The allure of the seemingly-glamorous job begins to dull as Stephanie comes to understand more about what really happens behind the closed doors of million-dollar Park Avenue apartments—and that money doesn't guarantee happiness. Soon she will have to decide whether to stay with the children she's grown to love, or if there's something better out there.

Thank you Stephanie for sharing so much more than just your employment journey with your readers.
I especially appreciated your contrasting of your upbringing with glimpses of the lives 1% live. I constantly found myself wondering how long our country would/could continue with such blatant inequities. Can you believe you actually found yourself lucky to experience a health crisis in a socialized country rather than at home in your own. Such a dismal state of affairs. Thank you for bringing it all to light- You're a TERRIFIC WRITER!!!

BRAVA!!! WHAT AN EYE-OPENER!!!

I had stop listening at chapter 3 because the narration was so poor. The author should have had someone else read it.

Poor Naration

An amazing study of American culture from a unique perspective. Having the author narrate added a personal insight. She is funny, intelligent and easy to listen

Loved it!

Fantastic book. It really explains the class divide in the US. It also shows that money doesn’t protect women from having to do everything in the family

Great read

So honest, and unapologetic from beginning to end. An interesting look at class and its opportunities.

What an amazing journey!

I really enjoyed this book! The stories of the parents, children, and other nanny’s were so well depicted! I wish this book could become a movie or a series! Very entertaining!

Great Book! Loved it!!

Came for the ways that the rich raise their children and the ways the rich get ahead. Got a woman who grew up poor and whines/ squanders every single amazing opportunity that seems to just fall effortlessly into her lap.

A Memoir of An Entitled Nanny

This book is great for Liberals. A young girl bashing a family who has worked hard to be successful and because they are white she feels they are entitled and don't have friends or family of color. Even wealthy people of every color had a rough childhood and worked hard to raise above. She was the one who ran up student debt and constantly complains about it. I could only get through two chapters. This book is depressing and not at all what I thought it would be. Disappointed.
