The scar across the side of Jack’s head is the visible price. The risk to his friends at the academy is the hidden price. His challenge is how to balance the risks.

The final stage of his training is a shakedown cruise on an old minesweeper, barely able to achieve FTL entry and exit.

Midway through their cruise, the minesweeper collides with an ancient alien wreck, ripping the sides off the starship. Jack’s team of bots help seal the combined wreck to prevent air loss. Ghost, a nanolife form from the alien wreck, provides assistance.

Jack and his girlfriend, Sofia, are the only survivors, and air, food, and supplies are critical.

The countdown of days to survive is ticking.

No wonder the Royal Family are angry.

And there’s still a price on Jack’s head.

A great beginning.

Plenty of action and suspense...a must listen. Once you start this Space Opera, you can not stop.

Excellent Storyline!

Shades of the Richard Jackson saga: tall, handsome, fit, and intelligent young man with a penchant for inventing leads a charmed life with lots of awesome and remarkable events and achievements. Most of the dangers that crop up are dealt fairly easily and quickly. Still, I found it entertaining to listen to.

Light, but entertaining.

Lots of good action all through the book the AI is many AI through the book hope story continues.

Good story lots of action

This is the story of an extremely privileged young man floating carefree through life with the help of an omnipotent AI.

The main character faces almost no real struggle in this story. Even a near-fatal incident is dealt with in about 20 seconds, with no long term consequences.

In the end I wound up listening for longer than I should have since I hate having DNFs in my library, but I finally gave up on this one.

Narration was very good.

Not a very believable story. DNF

Jack could have been less “amazing” and the story would have been as good in the end.

Good story

There might be a story but the monotone delivery made it impossible to finish. The dialogue did not give a lot to work with

Boring

Se ha producido un error. Vuelve a intentarlo dentro de unos minutos.

The protagonist, a one dimensional goody two shoes with absolutely no faults, breezes from one accomplishment to another. On the post grad fast track already but complete 2 years in one? While also being an adjunct? Done! While writing brilliant and lucrative software? Done! Course record for running? Done! Fixed robots that no one else could figure out? You get the picture.

Jack is insufferable. As a good capitalist he’s always looking for a money making angle. Adults love him (except the ones who stupidly underestimate him). For some reason he (or someone else) always seems to want to get HR involved - not great when you read to escape.

Also - Jack is always up for firing people for making mistakes instead of seeing them as learning opportunities and often behaves like a complete douche - “out of my way little security guard or leave my company “.

Not recommended.

Performance felt a bit flat but I blame the material.
